A pro space program lady or friend asked me and my friends during lunch the other day that aren't you proud that we have a malaysian in space? So I ask her back, would you be proud if your hubby spent your hard earned money to go Antartic and come back saying that he achieved another milestone of your family legacy there by eating ketupat, rendang and lemang there. He also did some experiments that should benefit the mankind. I told her, you should be proud right. Throwing away a few hundred thousands RM for the cause is not a problem at all coz there is no success without a personal sacrifice. I think she got angry with my comment. My 2 cents. The space program is a waste of rakyat's money. I pay taxes each month and every year LHDN tells me that I need to pay more. It is not enough and I do peform my obligation as a Malaysian. But the see how and why the rakyat's money is being spent, sickens me. For such an amount, there are so many opportunity cost. We could have done more things that has a significant and tangible impact to improve the lives of Malaysians especially the less deprived. Instead, we spent such an amount for a milestone, an experience and a distorted feeling injected to the malaysian minds. We paid for a very very very expensive circus show. planta
