As someone has posted, wondering why spare parts is expensive is because bmw parts are not manufactured here or in Asean where together as a group impose tariff duties to protect regional industries. Except of course Singapore hence their free trade status.AP is issued by MITI again as a local industry on top of the tariff duties as a protection tool but again somewhat abused that they go beyond it's initial definition. Things is difficult in a sense that because we produce cars it is again protected under these duties and AP's. All personal wishes aside for cheaper cars... It will be a sad day if ever Proton fail as if you count from the CEO to the salesman to the OEM supplier it will affect a lot of people and the reason why it is not so clear cut how to handle the issue. I guess a gradual reduction in duties is one step but AP's can be easily abolished as MITI has done it for sunset industries like tin for example. Tax levied on cars is somewhat fair and will never be abolished, in my lifetime at least....Anyway crossing fingers i want to buy cheaper cars too!</blockquote>
