I have both and my PDA phone takes quite a while to lock on to satelites. To me, it would mean that there are times when I would already reached my destination before my pda phone (with Garmin Mobile XT) actually starts working. Maybe this is due to my pda phone being slow but another scenario is that when my pda does work, the navigation will be interrupted when a call comes in. Besides that, a dedicated unit tends to have bigger screen with large input buttons to allow quick input with minimum distraction. I am highlighting this simply because my pda (Samsung i780) has a relatively smaller screen and thus input while on the go can be quite fiddly. Now, considering the points mentioned, I am still very much attached to nuvi simply because i can get signal fairly quick and also the navigation is not interrupted when a call comes in. This is just my humble personal opinion and I hope my input is useful when considering your options.
