What's the function of this light button?

Hello Everyone, Perhaps this is a silly question but my curiosity has been piqued. Does anyone know the function of this light button? I can't find any reference on the manual and most of the people I asked doesn't seem to know much as well. View attachment 17664Thanks!

Start your car, Turn on your lights, press the button in question, get out of the car, go to the front \back side of the car, and OBSERVE, While you are observing ask someone to get into the car keep pressing on that button, One again OBSERVE. This is called learn by observation

That's for your fog lamp... specifically, i think it's for the rear ones... the one to the left of it on the other hand is for the front... try it out at night to confirm which is for which...

Most of the conti car got this rear caution light. Japan car talak... This is the caution light for those follow at your bck i guess, and it was at the Rear Right Side Only. Especially at the night.
Pls correct me if im wrong...

Not sure e46 but e39 on both side.

Mine also only brighter on the driver's side....

It suppose to be "Light UP" on ONLY one side. for Malaysia, it will be on the RIGHT hand side. If both lights are ON, it will be confuse as brake light. That why it is always ON on the DRIVER side when the rear fog light switch is turn ON.

i think for those whose rear fog lights only lights up brighter on the right, must have your left bulb checked.. mine lights up with equal brightness.. so does for my uncle's 39 and cousin's 46. function of rear fog lights, i believe is to give extra visibility to tell drivers behind you, during thick fog and heavy rains, as visibility in these condition is worse compared to just pitch black darkness at night... thus, you don't need to turn on your hazard lights and lose your ability to flick your turn indicators like most idiots in Malaysia

yeah..mine also right side...n i used to think that the left bulb got blown! until i saw someone with the same car as mine, turning on that light during rain and guess what, only right side too!
(i even tried changing the bulb once, but same result coz the brighter light is not bcoz of other filamen lighting on (same like brake lame) but instead, the same filamen just got brighter, i think)

Mine is recon import too and it only lights up on the right. I checked on the left but there is no terminal to put the light bulb. So im guessing its only for the right side. But it looks so damn weird. HAHA.

mine only on driver side.. the light used during snow.. so, car behind can see u easier.. but here, we can use it while heavy rain.:wink:

at first i thought my rear left bulb blow and go to accesorries shop to replace but whn open the compartment, there are no bracket & wiring to put the bulb at all. it just blank compartment.
btw mine is cbu fr japan
