Why not consider the BMW E90 320d instead? :)

So far my E90, 320i no problem. White smoke is due to Valve seals. Change it and problem solved

Test drive a 320d first and decide whether do you like the 320i or the 320d more.

Hi Bro,better go for 323 or 325, i am driving 320i but every time see 323 or325 on the road abit regret. So better go for higher CC.

Hi bro, thanks for ur advice. but for me is ok..not focusing on CC

Hi there.... may i know what is your budget? Coz E90 second hand is really affordable lately...thanks to recond market... :motz:

personally i don find alot of problem in E90 320i. but first you should never compare it to Jap car when it comes to durability..

my experience with the cost of maintenance as follows:
1. servicing: less than RM400 for fully-synthetic oil castrol titanium, air-filter, and oil-filter
2. changing the oil seals and gasket (i think) to solve the oil leak issue RM600.
3. there are 4 coils for 320i and each coil cost about rm180 with labour. i replaced 1 coil this week.. and my car is a 2010 car. expect the other 3 coil will need to be replace soon.
4. breaks ... front and back about the same price.. i think.. i changed my rear break recently .. less than RM400

but i think it is normal for wear and tear....

Before you buy the car, send it to a BMW specialist workshop for inspection. If the sellers says no, walk away and keep looking. The car may be affordable now but when things break, you'll still be paying the parts & labor for a premium saloon car.

im also using 320i, although I heard lotsa negative feedbacks regarding the car, but that's only I could afford & the selling price was within my budget,
the bmw workshop I go to also complained about the engine, very manja etc....but he told me as long as u service on time & don't always floor the pedal then you're alright.

but if u have slightly higher budget for at least 323i or 320d.

for me so far im happy with my e90 320i non lci.

I bought my 320i from second hand dealer a year ago. Exactly same like the picture shown. So far no problem despite some minor issue due to wear and tear.

Valve gasket & other engine seals - RM800
Passenger & driver splash door cover - RM120
Rear Absorber - RM1k (cant remember much)
Change engine oil - RM400

Expect to pay for touch-up some minor problems. Good luck in your search!

Been using 320i for year.. just beautiful.. and who can say that the higher cc model are better.. they also got lots of issues.
Go for it.. if CC is not the main focus here..

But please please please, if you are buying a 2nd hand car.. get it check and recheck before buying.. better late then having so many issues later.. Don't just simply buy base on trust or recommendation.. you have to play an active role in the pre purchase process.

As per everyone is saying, it is especially important to let your trusted mechanic( preferably bmw shops ) to have a look, i recently purchased my 325i 2007 end of last year, its been perfect, i let kenny from Mspeed do the checking, only thing i he mentioned was worn absorbers, almost 8 months now and its been relatively problem free other than usual servicing.
and if you're new to the continental family, BUY PARTS FROM PARTS DISTRIBUTORS and let your mechanic use them instead. Saves money and gives you peace of mind their using the parts you choose.

i have been using my 325i and luv every bit of it. Not sure about 320's but 325 definitely gets going once ur on the highway and ul not notice ur going fast until u look at the speedometer....servicing on time and not trashing the car too often will save ur pocket...good luck
