anyone know workshop that can reprogram used part(szl). because af far as i know the part is write protected. so need to changed VIN number than u can coding it. i already bought the part through ebay but until now no workshop can do. or there is no way to replace used part?

bro...is your issue due to the Active steering message on I drive?

If you DIY kaki....google this and youtube got video to show how to clean the disc and change the sensor and from what I have seen, there was no requirement to code the sensor after replacement. And most of the time it is the disc that need cleaning.

alternatively....try mspeed - kenny @ ah meng 012-2098850 or optimum auto ah foo 012-3081891

bringing this thread alive :)
I got this active steering faulty message on idrive too. apparently a very common issue for the e60. May i know how you solve your problem? based on my research there is a steering angle sensor on the rack which can be replaced. If lucky, thats all needed to fix it.

Mine have active stering fault appeared in idrive and sometimes the steering to start the car was tighten till i cant solve it. Could it be steering rack problem or sensor?

it could be anything but most likely sensor. But since u already changed the sensor, it has to be the rack. Last resort, changing to new rack is bloody expensive. best to try and fix first.

the last i you tubed....the steering angle sensor and disc is in the steering wheel........some cleaned the disc with success and some not.some requires the sensor replacement.

in my case, first i replace the sensor (SZL) but still gor error, the steering still move itself little bit to the right postion everytime i start my car. the problem solved after i replace the entire rack and another clockspring. because my problem is the steering move its self. so when the steering complete the 360' move, it will make the clockspring broken.

Hi bro, may i know how much it cost to replace the entire steering rack and the clockspring? Mine the sensor sometimes came and sometimes didnt pop up. But i know sooner or later will need to face this.

M1 quoted around 7k reconditioned. I took my car to Optimum, the mechanic inspected the sensors on the rack and did some adjustments and now the fault doesnt pop up most of the time. I guess he must be doing something right.

Wow. 7k is really a bomb..huhuhu. Hope it was not that bad. Just now when i drove some distance, it pop up again. After i have parl the car for sometimes, it goes off again. Bring it over to service centre, cant help much.

today i sent in the car to a workshop in Petaling Utama. The sole mechanic/owner cleaned up the whole rack and adjusted. took about 4 hours for the whole job. The warning signal has not come on since. Will cross fingers and see what happens next few days. If this is proves to be a permanent solution, I can recommend others to see him :)

Hi guys

My steering failed me while i was driving last night. Thank god i was driving it slowly cos suddenly my steering wont able to turn which i made the final turn and message on idrive appeared, Charging Fault, High Temperature and drive moderately. Finally able to find to find a spot to stop my car and trying very hard to turn my steering which it is impossible. Really nightmare and luckily not much car in my neighbourhood. Looking down after stop the car, oil leaked out from bottom. Now wait for tow car to tow to mechanic. Really hope it will not be bad damage.

One of the high pressure power steering hoses could be leaking resulting lost of pressure for the power steering. Quite a simple replacement but however the high pressure hose is expensive. Keep us informed of progress.
