I'm looking at replacing some rubber mounts for the drivetrain on my M40 soon and want a slight upgrade over stock rubber which seems to be too soft.I'll be using E21 transmission mounts for the instead of E30 ones. But for the M40 engine mounts, I can't really find any alternative. Is there any? (Not poly ones tho as that would be too hard)

Few weeks back, i've changed from the M40 mount to the M20 mount on the right side (where the engine leans on). Down side is that u can feel more engine vibration from the cabin.

Alternatively, u can fill up the gap in the M40 with silicon....

Isn't your car M42 fabian? Or M42 mounts are the same as M40?

Is the M20 mount plug and play or must modify? I was under the impression the bolt placement and shape of the mount was quite different between M20 and M40.

Filling in the gaps sounds interesting, are you referring to using the normal silicon sealant in a tube?

Have been using the M40 mount on my M42 since I put in the engine.
M42 mounts are filled with hydraulic fluid to dampen the vibration and from what i read, they are expensive not to mention rare in Malaysia. Have to pre-order, and that makes it even more expensive.

Ahh I see. So do the M20 mounts (which I assume are stiffer to accomodate the heavier 6-pot) fit in directly on both sides for the M40 engine?

M40 mount are offset as in one of the bolt is about 1.5cm off the center. M20 mount is not offset, both bolts are at the center. Which is why I only fitted the M20 mount on 1 set instead of both sides. No modification required.

Hmmm OK. Looks like I'll have to stick with the standard mounts then. Probably see if I can fill in the holes somehow with silicon like you mentioned.

This one of the best mod on the e30 so far.. and it really works.. :top:

btw, got to use sika 522 silicone.. lasting..

my e30 m40 running with m20 mounting since i bought. even last time i change, the mech ask me to but m20 mounting since its last long (is it???)

now wanna use the ori mounting. my questions....

1) where to get the m40 mounting damper??(the small absorber beside the mounting.
2) m40 mounting without damper VS m20 mounting.

pls throw ur comments.

:)

pussy: Wah really so good meh. haha ok next time i get mounts from a parts shop, i'll fill it with silicon first before asking my mech to install haha.

datsunnismo: i think i asked about the absorber before, i just remember it was bloody expensive. :D

yeah....

i called bav auto sbg yesterday. they said its nearly rm 500 and they dont keep stock.

btw, are u running without the mounting absorber.?????

I've not seen the mountings before, but I didn't realize the hole was so big. Why didn't they just make it solid from the start. -.-

Where'd you get the sika from btw, hardware store?

i went to the shop where i did my welding job to fill the silikon for me.

btw, u can get it from hardware shop.

good luck
