Yes I do notice that members prefer not to talk about bad experiences here unless it's on the extreme side and they want to warn others. Forgive me for being noobish but, is there a fear that when it's written in black and white, it might cause problems like defamation, boycotting..etc? For me I think this forum is a great place to share information both good and bad, it gives both the workshops and consumers benefits by making it a truly free market for all. By making all these information publicly available it'll keep the workshops' actions in check, yet I also believe that this forum has already brought a substantial amount of businesses to them already just by word of mouth isn't it? My friends all have these stigma about second hand BMWs that'll cost a bomb to maintain and reliability is low, and to tell the truth I still do have the fear too as I'm new to the BMW world. Ironically its in some U.S. forums that I read that gave me confidence to switch back from Jap cars to continental (http://logicum.co/how-to-keep-your-bmw-e46-in-top-shape/), and I especially agree with the statement that 90% of all the costs to maintain a BMW in top shape is the same as any other car... it's just that we BMW owners love their cars too much compared to other non car enthusiasts :69: . I just hope that by sharing more information, more newcomers would have the courage to take the step towards BMW ownership so in all, more beneficial to everyone as well :67: . That wrong catalytic converter I think, is quite a serious issue. One mechanic I went to see in PJ also hinted the possibility of overhauling the whole gearbox to solve the jerking problem; it made me so worried I couldn't sleep the whole night and thus went to M-Scope the next day :stupid: . Glad to hear that it wasn't something too serious! What's a CAB? If it was half hanging out from the bracket, could it have caused a serious problem or accident?? Hmm, my jerking problem also came about after I changed the long shaft coupling with Optimum, it wasn't there when I tested the car and drove the car one week after purchasing. But I also fixed many other parts so I can't be sure...
