Woah so long I didnt log in suddenly name comes up... Anyway, I have to admit that I've considered this mod in the past, but I'm not sure if this is available for the sedan E39. Few issues from my brief read-up regarding the system: 1) The one installed above was on an E38. Although the car featured didnt have it originally the auto trunk feature has been an available option to order when the car was new for the E38. It was never available for the E39 sedan. There are systems for E39 Touring though. So my thought is you would have to find an E38 system to retrofit to E39 and make it work. 2) Since the system was never available for E39 sedan I dont know how to code it to the system. 3) Clearance for the hidraulic tubes. The e38 has a longer boot, and looking at these pictures directly, if the hole was to be cut at roughly the same distance from the strut it will be nearly at the edge of the panel towards the rear light: And this is where a lot of water is pouring down when it rains. I'd hate to introduce another possible rusting spot in my car. 4) Price and availability. Not sure $800 for the system (if you can actually find one) is worth it. Worse still is when it leaks, how much is needed to replace it, and that doesnt include the damage done to the other stuffs down there. Both side of my boot is full of relays and wires and electronics. 5) Wiring. I've had some troubles to install my supposedly 'easy' electric rear blind which is still ongoing due to some extra wires needed. Dont know how the wiring for this system are to be connected. All that said, there are none of this system selling on eBay currently, but the good news is there have been somebody who apparently has installed the system to an E39!
