here is the price list. I think you should just get the M5

BMW 5 Series (E39)YearDescription HPPrice98-00520i 6.5PSI227HPMYR29,000/=01-02520i 2.2 5.5PSI252HPMYR32,000/=98-00523i 6.5PSI271HPMYR29,000/=01-02525i 6PSI291HPMYR29,000/=98-00528i 7PSI302HPMYR32,000/=01-02530i 7PSI335HPMYR34,000/=10/95-08/97540i 4.4 V8 7PSI407HPCall or email us09/97-08/98540i 4.4 V8 7PSI407HPCall or email us09/98-03/02540i 4.4 V8 7PSI392HPCall or email us

These price are of course inflated due to the "professional" work involved. I saw one supercharger for a 3 series (bolt on) in some chop shop in Puchong a couple of years back... cost less than a 2K and just need to get some "less professional" people to install it and viola, a working upgrade for less than 5K. U should read up american forums on how enthusiasts really do up their car, nobody really spends so much like malaysians do here. Like bimmer73 said, if you're gonna spend that much, might as well buy another car.

Bros,

Have anyone successfully installed a supercharger on their e 39's? How much and where? perhaps would be nice on 520's. what are the pro and cons

I've seen more headaches that success on these supercharger configurations.

last 2 cars of people I know who had those, i've seen has got a blown engine, a supercharger that eats pulley belts for lunch and twisted brackets.

The thing to worry bout superchargers are the brackets and the charger it self. Some chargers are good and some are not.

Fast? yes these cars are fast but with a price. Repairs.....

So my advise, get a bigger engine and dump it in. Later if you dont like it just sell it off, engine I mean. They all look the same from above so who knows you are 520 525 or 528?

Yeah..there is a price to pay for the performance......frequent visit to the mech if not done properly and if the car is your daily drive, then reliability should be paramount.

PLEASE BE INFORMED...a well developed kit would not require any more frequent visit to your mech other than the required routine BMW factory specified maintenance for all wear and tear parts. no headaches involved.

Do your research well, prepare the required amount of cash of about +/-30k, acquire a proper well made supercharger kit for your designated engine with all the required parts and tuning from a REPUTABLE experience BMW force induction specialist (not any Ah kaw workshop here), FYI the tuning for the kit is of the most important here, a full software reflash is the best and highly recommended. A piggyback is ok provided its of a tried and tested factory supplied system. Trying your luck at the local tuners? DONT bother, unless you dont mind being the guinea pig. Bolting on the hardware is simple "sap sap sui" as someone put it, but tuning is a different ball game. most of the local mech/tuners here only have basic experience on tuning our cars.

Here are some of the tuners where you can acquire your supercharger kits from:-

euro based kits

European Supercharger System from Norway. ALL their kits are EXTREMELY well made which includes everything from in-house customized DME tuning software, hardware and most of all top rated customer service. all ESS kits are well designed, researched and road tested for at least 50k kms or 2 years in all weather conditions for durability and performance.

esstuning.com

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Infinitas GmbH (originally owned by ASA, a supercharger manufacturer but now taken over by G-Power, a well known german tuning house for bmw). kits starts from the basic sk+, sk 1 and sk 2. very economical kits. comes with okay, well made hardware, however it only includes BASIC tuning for their PROJECTED performance. g-power kits are similar to the infinitas kits except the change of name from the basic sk plus to Evo Eco, sk1 to Evo 1, sk2 to Evo 2. all kits only includes the basic tuning hardware so

These are not the best kit out there but good enough for the money. you may in future acquire a proper software which will gives you a better reliability and some additional hp as well from the proper fuel and ignition tuning.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HIOP motorsport GmbH, well known for their stroker kits and tuning know-how. has one well developed positive displacement kompressor kit in their arsenal, comes with a custom cast manifold with in built cooling, twin screw supercharger, proper fueling and tuning software.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

US based kit

Active autowerke, Miami Florida. http://www.activeautowerke.com/

another well know Force induction specialist for bimmers. all kits are well made and comes with proper hardware, intercooler and tuning software. HOWEVER its important you specify your need for a euro based tuning of which it has a very different tuning from their US based cars due to different US emission standards and petrol ratings.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

all the kits above have all the ingredients for a perfect kit, its a well worth performance mod. generally with no headaches involved, but unless the kit is installed by a properly trained mech, its as good as digging your own grave to jump into.....

maybe you can go for it and give us a first hand review. it takes one to owned one to know its overall performance, and reliability. 16k is a small amount compared to the kits from the companies listed above.

do a proper research on the kit. before you proceed, you may get an idea on how well the kit is performing by checking with any of their current user for feed back and also on its track record on the post-installation durability of the engine.

Their website is quite basic with not much info (kit cost only Australian Dollar 2.5K there). Trying to find out more info from Australian friends and also if anyone that has install it in Malaysia.

Main concern is reliability. Certainly don't want to spend the rest of the time in the workshops. Claimed 60wbhp is enough for me but if always rosak 500 bhp also no use.

Hi - where'd you get this price list? The 520i supercharger is listed as 98-00, but mine is a 1997. How ah.

I think should check how much torque our existing transmission will hold...no point have the extra hp's and a slipping gear box at the same time...

leforte can share more info how u got yours in?

Official custom duty/tax for the kit upon arrival in malaysia is 30+10% off the original price+shipping cost. the inofficial kopi money / under table rates vary around 5k to 8k depending on ya luck. you can lower the actual cost of the items shipped but no point, somehow the bastards in there already knows the price, no thanks to most of them having a Iphone with full internet access, i wonder where the iphone came from. anyway, if your items happens to be damaged on arrival and you have a lower than actual cost, you cant claim any insurance for it.

for tuning, you will have to send the DMe back to them in norway for programing, from here to norway cost about rm700 and the way back will cost about rm1300.

total cost would be Sc+tax + Dme shipping+ installation charges+ time

to safe on the cost, order your sc kit in advance then go over to norway or anywhere in europe for a nice holiday, and hand carry back with you. make sure you bring along your dme for programing and bring it back the same time.

when you reach here, the KLIA dudes are easier to dealt but its also depending on ya luck, if you have a VERY very sexy babe behind you then you might get off the hook sooner than expected. official tax charges ranges from the low few hundreds to 2k. for cheaper deals ask them how much a coffee table would cost?:listen:

for installation, first read through the instruction YOURSELF, then make sure you go to a competent person for the install, as the kit is only as good as the installer doing it and make sure you have full supervision on them. a few workshop competent enough to install a TS kit would be Ultratune (glenmarie) and Top marques (subang ss13) who follows a very stringent factory specific processes on all their works. both workshops are best known for their exotic marques like porsche, ferrari, Lamborghini expertise. checkout http://www.ultratune.com.my/main.htm and you will know what i mean. installation charges vary from 2k to 3k. before installation commence, have them first run a diagnostic test on the car and clear all adaptation values. next do a full compression test, make sure the numbers are within spec and do a critical manual check on the MAF, and O2 sensors. if any of them is out of range, REPLACED them before installation. the MAF will benefit from a simple spray of CRC MAF cleaner. you would also want to do a full lubricant service, and a new air filter.

after installation, do a proper break in of the SC. 1000km to 2000km applies. the software will work fine at the first crank, but it gets better and better over time with adaptations just like a fine glass of wine. BE PATIENT. no dyno before break in period.

optimal fuel to use would be neat/straight Vpower or petronas premium, never ever use shell economy, its economical but it literally sucks the power off your car. caltex and mobil/exxon premium seems ok but helps with a can of octane booster. BHP just sucks the hell more than the rest.

bravo.....

hmm just a thought, would the very sexy babe trick work better if you get her to sit on top of the box?

leforte you are damn right about BHP petrol it practically sucked half of my car's power. more intriguing is how this petrol can be rated at 97 octane (doesn't this mean with 'infinity 97'?). felt like they added alcohol to the fuel, similar to my 'gasohol' experience in Thailand...not that i got better fuel economy
