If price difference is not taken into consideration, how would you choose between the two stock cars? I know that it's two totally different cars, but in terms of handling and ride quality, how would you choose? I have a Golf GTI and I loved it, but I have never driven an AWD R or a RWD BMW. Can anyone give some advice?Performance Figures of stock cars:F30 328i: CKD : RM 289,800 : 180 (245) / 5,000-6,500 : 350 / 1,250-4,800 : 0-100 5.9 s (6.1 s) : 250kphGolf R : CBU : RM 268,888 : 188 (255) / 6000 : 330 / 2400-5200 : 0-100 5.7 s : 250kph

Bro, I think you already know what you wanted. By asking this question in this forum, you are just trying to reaffirm your decision only.

don't know la bro...never drive neither one those cars...but golf doesn't look nice to me, but then again maybe it's just me - I am not particularly concerned about the speed, don't really care about tapau here tapau there..fair to say so, right?...hehehe

My feedback from driving the Golf R:
Power off the line, you will feel it more with the 328i mainly because the Golf R has a lot of traction thanks to it's AWD. The power comes in gradually. I love the sound system on the Golf R, the Dynaudio system was a huge difference compared to my stock setup in my E90. The semi bucket seats are awesome, gives you more balls around corners but not for an everyday drive for people who are large in size. Definitely not comfortable for long trips. For handling I would go for the Golf R but for ride quality, definitely the F30 328i. Thats my own personal opinion of course :) I know different people have different priorities or meaning for handling and ride quality

Loving the GTi and considering the Golf R, you may find the stock 328i's ride to be on the softer side.. which i find to be about right for our far from ideal road conditions. But if u like it firm, u may wanna wait for the M-Sport version or upgrade to the M-Performance suspension system.

Either car can make you smile.. question should be what type of car do u want?

if you are worried bout resale value. you'd get more from the 328i as it is an all new.

if you want fun, i think golf R is probably more chuggable around corners.

actually, it really depends on your budget. whats your budget?

Rainy days, take the Golf R. Want to feel what driving is all about, take the F30 328i.. sometimes in life, a little drama in the corners keep us awake.. :4: What the fun of riding a train?

I think people don't buy car based on performance figures alone. It's also about prestige, status, brand name and class. So, of you ask me, I would say BMW > VW.

VW is not considered premium. so yes, i agree with you.

Toyotas/hondas < VW

rank by prestige (JD power survey)

1) Ferrari
2) Porsche / Mc Laren
3) BMW / Merc / Lexus
4) Audi
5) VW
6) Toyota / Honda

Rather surprise to see that Lexus rank amongst BMW & MB, thought should be higher!
Their SA also project better image & service quality compare to the latters, & is compatible to the Porsche's. BMW & MBs' SA in Malaysia is just rather "ordinary". Their counterparts in the UK are a lot better. Likewise, Lexus is rated the most luxurious car in the US ............... sorry, OT.

yes. Lexus has more prestige in the US. but not in AsiaPac and Europe.

People in Asia Pac associate it with Toyota when in actuality it is a different brand with different bosses and different direction.
Europeans are brainwashed to like Germans. See any English review of any Germans, you'd see good good ratings.

Lexus service is comparable to Bentley and other high luxury brands. But car class is similar to Mercs and BMW.

My biased point of view:

Golf R - Looks almost like any other Golfs, most people dont notice, i.e. boring. Bimmers, Mercs, wont give way, making you frustrated most of the time.

Front has too much overhang - that front wheel drive look, i.e. it was originally intended to be an economy car. The interior is just a Golf interior with souped up seats.

If you bring it to track days..you may realise that the traction control cant be switched off, so yowl be really slow in the corners and start cursing.

After the honey moon period ( maybe 2-3months after purchase) you will then finally realise that you are just driving another VW Golf. Thats why its cheap. ;)

One die hard fan of the BMW I see here :top: ... or am I wrong :4: ..

Am driving the mk5 gti, was also deciding between the 328 and the Golf R...
in the end i decided to go with the 328 because of the more comfy ride and the impending arrival of the mk7 ;)
Price difference is also too small for the difference in marques
