Message: <blockquote data-quote="machinehead" data-source="post: 685036" data-attributes="member: 1443">My E36 318 steering wheel jam yesterday morning after i i have started the engine and about to leave for work.Call tow truck for rescue.Tow to workshop &  mechanic change the  lock housing (chop shop) RM350 & labor RM100.He said that I was daring to drive with the problem mechanism a day before..It can jam any moment & will cause serious accident with the steering wheel lock.IMO i suggest that those with E36 to take the slightest symptom on the steering wheel seriously.In my case the first symptom was  a light ticking noise when i turn the steering wheel.As my car is already 17 years old, i did not pay any attention to it.Never in my mind that once the engine is started, the lock pin should be release for the steering to turn.Then came the turning of steering wheel lock for a while & back to normal  whenever I start the car.So get it repair when the symptom show up.</blockquote>
