steering rack rosak !!!!

1 mth old F30....SA telling me steering rack got mechanical problem :motz:. I tot it was the normal suspension problem....knocking sound goin thru bump....now changing d steering rack....speechless

Ultimate Disaster Machine. The techies at BMW says there is free play between motor and steering rack gears la. Not unsafe but still a problem

Don think mine is 2013 batch....though its manufactured 2013. Collected mid february.

I have been leaving with this intermittent knocking sound from the day I collected my car until now. It is not critical enough for me to take immediate action so I intend to get it check when I send my car in for the first service. I want to minimize down time and maximize use of my car. Go workshop is waste of time.

Hi guys....I've got my steering rack replaced. Whatever mentioned by that dude in f30post seems true....my steering feels heavier now. I jus tot tat it is a result fr balancing n alignment coz they did tat for me too. Haven't tried sports mode though......very anxious to know how heavier cud it b :burnout:

which service center u went and managed to claim the parts?

Was told that even after changing the rack the sound still persist due to operation sound. The rack no longer using hydraulic but motorized system hence the sound. This is what the SC told me. Bro who change the rack, does the sound done or slowly you hear the sound back?

I was the first few in Malaysia to report similar problem (reported in Sept 2012), and I even got BMW Germany and BMW Malaysia to acknowledged the issue. I have insisted to get the parts from Germany and only got the issue rectified after chinese new year.

I have sent my car to AB Sg Besi. Got the steering rack replaced and engine mounting replaced too. I have driven the car for a month and no more 'knowcking' sound. no free play on the steering and the steering amazingly feels heavier than before, especially on sports & sports + mode. All good and I hope it stays this way.

Get yours fixed immediately even if you hear a faint 'knocking' sound.

what problem with ur engine mounting?
by the way, i notice the knocking sound from steering is getting louder by the day, and the door handles which gt some crappy sound when pressing.. hearing all these sounds really annoyed me...

Nothing wrong with the engine mounting. But at the time when I discover the knocking sound, the technician suggested to change the whole thing, ie the rack and mounting all together to avoid future problem.

Well, under warranty and Gua tak kisah la. I am not paying anything. Plus, got the rusty seat frames changed too.

I got a new roof lining coming in from Germany and an a/c compressor too. Changing everything on my car.
