Dear sifu-sifu,Since there's quite a few of E36 with SR20DET/RB20, is it still possible to SR20DET an E46? will all the ABS/Traction control/Airbag all gone when such convertion is done? Many thanks for sharing.
 
Hmmn... Quite true, meaning RB25/RB26DETT more suitable? i was thinking SR20DET with lighter weight and quite potential to upgrade til 300ps, the weight balance of E46 would be better compare to RB26DETT...
 
Yes. With SR20 engine, weight distribution are better than RB26 engine.
You upgrade to SR20DET for power, which mean unless you want to lost to a Vios from 30Meter race, RB25 or RB26 will be a better choice.
If you are "Chicane" guys like me, I will opt for 2JZ-GTE instead ;)

Will 2JZ-GTE fit ? I don't know. :D :D
20B-REW will be even better... lol

Yes yes, SR20DET stock internal and its transmission are capable of 350hp to 400hp, even 450hp is possible.

SR20DET came from a 2750lbs car. E46 is 3200lbs, a 16% heavier.
More hp mean bigger turbo. With SR20DET in E46 to make 300hp is suicidal attempts in city/town driving because of turbo lag.

Sorry no. I used to do all the work myself.
Any decision on the engine ?
I will just stick with whatever engine that come with the car. :)

If I'm planning to plant in a RB26DETT, do you think all the original electronics stuffs like traction control/ABS will not be working anymore right? But atleast air-cond and radio is working then that will be fine with me... Can't wait to 'transform' into an 'ultimate driving machine'....

Yeap....it's really not recomended to buy e46 to plunk in the jap engines. Defeat the purpose.

anyone know how much is labor charge for transplant 1Jzgte into E46. plan to do this conversion next year..

guys...didnt mean to hurt but really sounds weird n unfair if wanne do so le......

Japanese heart will go fast but i dont think its will match well bimmer..

why am i saying this...
my buddy did tat n he was happy at first but when day pass by everything went wrong..
n he was complaining tat he lost that feel of driving bimmer...
he did that on E36/318...

n there is another crazy guy on my list of frn who plant in 1jz in E46...

think twice...once ur done , wont have chance to reverse...mean it.....

hi mate where u live..read ur post and it sounds interesting..anyway if u keen to do sr20 or rb20/25 i can recommend you 2 workshop nissan specialist...my fren has done his conversion rb25 into his E36...to be honest if u do conversion this mean u already disabled all special function u have in ur e46..but abs , traction control ( which is similar to the engine ECU spec ) will be working the same condition ( coz u change the whole set including braking system as well )..i would recommend u go for rb25..the engine might be expensive but u save on the maintenance ( if keep it stock )..rather than use old engine and put big turbine or whatever it will cost ur maintenance...what u need to do now is to make ur car as safety as possible, all the parts need to be in tip top condition...overhall, service etc need more money rather u spend ur money straight on modification..i tell u what..it is not worth...u can do ur modification later..that's how we play monster machine..not fun lah if u straight modified..the car also will have a big shock and die at the end...:p..

if u keen to get sr20det engine..go for black top..(if u can find one its rare )...the cost for this machine is around Rm10k without bodykit..if ur luck good, u can bargain less than RM6k..if with bodykit its around Rm14k ( u dont need bodykit anyway ) most of this machine has been installed with good gears such as HKS turbine etc..but need very good luck to get at cut shop ..like pisang goreng panas lah!

anyway on the subject of the cost to build this machine..u might need to save AT LEAST around rm15k to do such of this conversion including labour cost and changing part to the tiptop..

im not sure what engine u using now..2.0? 2.5? 2.8? 3.0?

if ur e46 machine now 2.5 > then why not go for original supercharge or turbo kit for this 6 potter? cost around Rm15k-20k with intercooler etc...also use original UDM machine wooohh..no need to modify ur engine mount also..future modification? u can go up to stage 3 bro!!also use management ECU...people respect lah...sure girls n all the guys also would say wallaweiii yeahaaa..:D u know how's ur engine condition so u should know which one need to be done...

this is only my opinion..the decision is depends on urselve..if ur budget less than RM10k, then go for old engine..SR20det (pulsar GTR is the best) or RB20det ) with RB25 turbo + labour cost + tuning ONLY RM7k - RM9k...
