Hi TrincyLim, I'll chip in with my 2 cents worth, in addition to the already priceless advice so liberally shared by the many experts on the forum. Mercedes Benz has finally gotten the latest E-class right - the company's sorted out a lot of the bugbears that plagued the older "四只眼" cars. Most of the reviews lauded the new E-class as a victorious return to its original roots: a solid, boxy, square, reliable tank of a car. The quintessential uncle car. Ironically, it is precisely this reason that Mercedes Benz LOST the title of the top luxury marque sold in Singapore - to BMW, no less. I mean, if an uncle like me (and yes, I'm an uncle) finds the E-class too much of an uncle car, I really have to wonder what a 27 year old returning graduate would think of the E-class, no matter how solidly built or otherwise. The new Five series is inherently more pleasing to the eye. No odd, sharp, flamed-surface shapes to jolt one's senses. Mechanically, reliability-wise: you can be assured both cars will be well built. And both cars will be relatively more costly to maintain (when compared, say to a Japanese or Korean model). The 520d, as someone said, is a frugal sipper at the pump, yet delivers a drive that is comparable to the best petrol engines out there. That's how much the technology gap has been narrowed. If you're concerned about safety, well, only BMW 5 series (and surprising, Hyundai!) received the max number of stars in the US CRASH TESTS 2011 - so you'll be well coddled behind the wheel of a Beemer. And, yes, you can specify for Park Assist in the new Five Series (self parallel parking) - and apparently, it works like a charm :) Good luck with your decision!
