Hello,This is my first post in like 2 years.I sold my E46 about a month ago. Loved it and hated it at the same time. I am now in the market for a two door convertible. Budget MYR 200K. I am having a real tough time deciding on whether I should go for a 2.5 Z4 or a 350Z roadster (convertible). I've had the opportunity to meet and discuss with several 350Z owners and they've put forth some very convincing arguments in favor of 350Z over the 2.5 Z4.I'm hoping to get some of your feedback on why I should get a Z4.I plan to come down to KL in September to shop around and make a purchase; I'll obviously have to make up my mind by then.

Wow, that would be a hard choice for me too. But after weighing the pros and cons, I'd go with the Z4 2.5.

Though the 350Z is slightly quicker and faster, neither one is really blisteringly fast. However, I choose the Z4 simply because of its rare factor.I see a lot of those 350Zs running around in Klang Valley. When was the last time you saw a Z4 on the road? If you don't mind upgrading the Z4 slightly to the 3.0 liter version, the performance will be similar to that of the 350Z.

If choosing the 350Z means the maintenance is cheaper, think again. The Z4 basically has the suspension of a 3 series(plus its engine and gearbox), so parts interchangeability(and hence availability)is better. The 350Z shares its engine and platform with the FM cars(notably the R35 Skyline, which is a very rare sight in Malaysia).Except for a few Murano's, do you see any other Nissan car with a 3.5 liter V6? Parts for the 350Z will definitely be harder to get, and won't necessarily be cheaper, either.

Of course, I'm always biased towards BMW's anyway. But from a neutral standpoint, you can't go wrong choosing either the 350Z or the Z4. Btw, I think the opinions of the people who favors the 350Z are also the people who are biased towards Japanese cars, anyway.

That's my 2 sen.

'Vert 350Z FTW!!!

3.5L V6! highly tuneable, not too fussy to maintain, and open top is a pimpin' chick magnet.

but Z4 has more exoticness bout them

350Z : can attract a lot of Ah Lians but not many non-Ah Lians

Z4 : can attract a lot of Ah Lians and non-Ah Lians alike

But then again Stud_Daddy may not need either.

Here is my take : if you like pimping the car, the 350Z is the one coz there are so many aftermarket parts and accessories and not too expansivee like the German tuners.

I don't like the 350Z design, especially those without a GT wing... looks like a bird being pulled out the tails.. no lines, no curve, no character.

The Skyline V35 GT-S has a little bit more character than the 350Z..

... but Z4 is a different class, a different taste (German sausage) compare to the oriental sushi Nissan... :D

I agree that 350Z coupes are fairly common; and I've seen some very Ah Beng version of it, with all the decals/wings/etc......makes me sick to the stomach. But what I'm looking at is the roadster, and that is still quite uncommon on Malaysian roads I believe. Take a look at the pictures in the link below; these don't look AhBeng at all. They looks as classy as the Z4 and equally rare, if not more rare on Malaysian roads; with more torque and same price (I can't afford a 3.0 Z4; my gigolo days are over.)

If I get a 350Z, it will be simple and classy like in the pictures; no wings, no decals, no aftermarket accessories other than changing to nice 19in rims.

If I hadn't stumbled upon these pictures, and if I just based on my perception of the 350Z Ah Beng coupe versions seen on Malaysian roads, I would have easily decided on the Z4. I owned an E46 until last month and I have a soft spot for Beamers; but damn these 350Z roadsters look good........ and now I'm confused.

Oh yeah roadster 350z roxxx .. However I'd only seen once, a sweet malay girl driving.

I reckon few use their roadster as daily ride. Think about the road tax of 350Z (Rm3K+++) vs Z4 2.5 (RM8xx). Also think about the design aging factor. Z4's design would age better than the 350Z (...which looks dated even now).

It will be my weekend car. Road tax is MYR 4.3K kawan.....its a pain in the butt.

I dunno about it looking dated; I guess I could agree about the Coupe....but the roadster still looks rather current. I agree to your point that in any case the Z4 will age better. That's a plus for Z4!

z4 always!!! Hands down.... A Beemer is a Beemer.......A nissan is a nissan!!

Go test drive both cars to see if u like how they drive... Especially without a roof. See which one shakes ur bumbum more when you go over rough patches.. Z4 is purpose built roadster, the 350z is 'converted' from the coupe. U would have to test drive to see which one has the least scuttle shake.

In terms of rarity, I would say there are more Z4 compared to the 350z convertibles in KL.. In terms of looks, the Z doesn't have the character.. Neither here nor there..

If still can't decide, just get both.. 1 problem solved... :D

It all depends what you're looking for in them.

I'll take a Z4 anytime, since the 350z is so common & so beng..ed up.

For ard your budget, you can actually check out VW EOS at rm240k. I think. It will be from VW directly CBU & brand new some more. Same platform & engine from Golf GTI with DSG, some more with Convertible (retractable) hard top & save on your annual road tax.

Studdaddy... my opinion, get a Z4, cos you can always go topless... since you are using it for a weekend car, the rubber seals will last long...
as for the coupe Z.. it's a cross between a porche and a nissan...

btw, at any roadblock especially if JPJ u will be stopped.. even the car is very legal..

regards.

get the z4...drive it a while then supercharge it...that will make your car more fun & ultra-rare!

Hoi Pussy,
Lama tak jumpa!
Actually if you read my post, I am choosing between a Z4 and 350Z convertible. Wanna let the top down and feel the breeze through my turban. Will never get a 350Z coupe.....its a little too common.
I understand that the tops + seals on 350Z is also reliable.

I already decided; its gonna be a Z4 or 350Z convertible. VW doesn't look good to me.....matter of taste perhaps. Thanks anyway.

Saw the 350z convertible few time ago, nothing spacial for me, but when I saw a BMW Z4 with top down past by me, I will said wow, it really look great:top:~!!! for me 101% go for BMW Z4:top:~!!!

ya..lama tadah jumpa...

yes, re-read your post.... i think the Z4 is due for a make over anytime soon, but the sales are still coming..

As for the 350z conv, it's just for a short period, it's like everyone's having it so i must have it syndrome...

only consolation, the road tax.. you might loose some heavy re-sale value later.
