I came across this particular engine oil, Shell Helix HX7E which meets BMW LL04! [QUOTE="yohannes, post: 30108, member: 24653"] Hi guys, I believe there are many forummers here who have experience with the N42, and I would like to get your advice with regards to engine oil change. First of all, with regards to viscosity, I have been told by one of the mechs that I "used to go to" that the best engine oil for my car is Ravenol 5W-30 fully synthetics. According to him, 5W-40 and 5W-50 are too heavy for this engine, and could damage it + cause sludge in the long run. At the same time, I have been looking around and it seems that most of the major fully synthetic oils on the market are in 5W-40 form. Although I believe this has been discussed before, I would like to seek advice and confirmation, one whether it is ok or even better to use 5W-40 fully synthetic oils. Finally, if 5W-30 would be a better choice for my car, I am also toying with the idea of using semi synthetics albeit on a shorter interval, as I have a bad experience having to change my oils long before service interval is due because of problems with the car. I came across this particular engine oil, Shell Helix HX7E which meets BMW LL04!
