The listing also highlights the fact that stability control is a proven safety device.

It's surprising that in Malaysia many recent BMWs only had traction control (ASC+T) but not stability control (DSC) as standard. Only the very late batches of the E39 525i and 530i (during the period just prior to the E60's launch), the FL E46 325i and late model FL E46 318i started to have stability control as standard. I believe most E38s sold in Malaysia only had traction control as standard equipment but not stability control.

For years, stability control was optional on BMWs even in overseas markets, instead of being standard - check out Japan and UK spec BMWs; most have traction control only.

Of course stability control is now standard equipment on all current BMWs eg. the E90, E60, E65/66 etc. but as a company which purports to be technologically-driven, surely it would not be too much to expect BMW to fit all E46s, E39s and E38s with stability control as standard right from the outset?

They want to milk the early adopters with "Options". Its a marketing thing.

But what i find silly is the added extras of Airbags (which is passive safety - ie. it acts during the accident) and the consumer pays for it with the higher car price; whereas i feel ABS (active safety - ie. its used to avoid an accident before it happens) is more useful on a more frequent basis.

(I dont want to know if my airbag works....)
