Since it moves up and down (compress and rebound) they can valved it harder so it takes more effort to compress and delay the return by using smaller orifice valves. Or they can do just the opposite for a softer ride.  On some cars like my Merc E240, lowering with sport springs entails replacing all the shockers with a shorter type (correspondingly shorter stroke). Using the original tall shockers with sport springs with these car will kill them (the shockers) in no time. Why don't you look into the website for Konis or Eibach or H&R? These are reputable sport suspension makers, I got mine for the Merc from Eibach and it gave lots of improvements on the ride.</blockquote>
