Well after replacing the 02 sensor you need to reset the fault with the diagnostic tool and yes it will go away. Anyway i browse somewhere just now and found out your fault 202 and 203, fault code 202(cylinder bank 1-3) is LAMBDA REGULATION(FUEL TRIM) LIMIT EXCEEDED:BANK 1 and 203 also the same limit exceeded for cyl 4-6. To summarize, it is saying that the air/fuel mixture has exceeded the normal operating limits because your 02 sensor is faulty, replacing the 02 sensor should clear all the faults present for it. To me before it damages the catalytic convertor its better to change it. Other symptoms for faulty 02 is not only high fuel consumption(if you are heavy footed surely you wont notice it hehehe), sluggish acceleration and also exhaust fumes smell unburned petrol. Heres the link which i checked for the fault code http://www.autolib.diakom.ru/CARS2/pribor/cs1000/manual/cs1000_bmw.pdf and for our cars look under U11-MS41.0/MS41.1, M52, S52US/B32
