Guys,

My nightmare starts. My F10, Dec 2012, mileage 45K Kms. 2 weeks back, suddenly A/C stopped cooling function. It was NOT gradual (usually linked to gas issue), it just stopped 100%. Prior to that, I set gear to R to reverse, suddenly car Jerked, A/C stopped being cool, forever. BSRI expire in Dec 2015.

Booked for a check this week to Quill. Before i went in, took the car to a BMW Specialist in Taman Esplanad just to check Gas & Fuse. Gas was full, Fuse was functional. The boss said he wont touch the car, asked me to send back and question BMW why a low millage car at 3.5 years can have a faulty compressor?

I sent my car in to Quill PJ. Got the shock today. Not only full compressor change, they also slapped me with Condenser change, as its BMW recommendation that when compressor is changed, condenser is replaced to assure the new compressor doesn't mal-perform due to old condenser. Total Damage - 13K.

I have written as per advice in this forum to BMW Voice and CC BMW Germany 'bmwvoice@bmw.com.my'; 'customer.service@bmw.com'. I don't know how long this is going to drag, but this is complete BS. If a BMW A/C system has worse of reliability then Proton, why would people even consider a BMW?

Seriously, we have 3 F10's in my extended family, 2x 2011 6 cylinders, both milleage about 150-160K and mine at 45K, 2012. The experience has been miserable, quality horrible. The other 2 had their 5 years x 100K BSRI expire in 3 years and since then spent close to 50-60K on repairs alone. These are well maintained cars. Mine is 45KKMS, always services ahead of schedule, at times paying from my pocket as i did not trust BMW schedules and yet, i am in this shitty dilemma.

Any guidance?

I would, off course be just as mad if I were you. I mean its just 3.5 years and 45k kms. One would expect more time before the nightmare begins, as you put it.

I hope bmw will replace the items under ex gratia warranty for you. But if all fails, you can consider to do it outside. It definitely cheaper

I'm very sorry to hear about your problem. It scares me as a potential F10 owner. I hope BMW covers at least half the costs of your repairs. Pls keep us updated

Just a quick update. As expected BMW Malaysia never came back as yet on my email but BMW Germany did respond immediately within a few hours. They promised to assign someone to reach out to me to understand my situation better and will investigate this complaint. Meanwhile i have asked the dealership to put my car back and i will pick it up.

Dang! Gotta bang table and chairs... If I were you, I would get a trusted workshop to give a 2nd opinion..
Hope everything work out well and good luck bro

I am not sure but the CKD cars seems to have more problems than imported AP cars? I mean, things like air conditioning should be something that's very reliable. How could it fail in just 3-4 years?! Do you normally have the temps at 16c or what's your typical settings?

sorry to hear your predicament bro. RM13k is madness. How much is the compressor?

from my experience dealing with authorized service center like quill, ingress, auto bavaria (the worst, especially glenmarie!), most of them will just change stuff without really troubleshooting. if your car is out of warranty, i suggest getting it fixed outside. better send to an aircon specialist. there is an aircon shop at sungai besi. forgot what's the name of the shop but i can help find the contact if you want. Price is quite reasonable and the guy seems to be trustworthy.

i don't think so, the reason why there are less complaints about AP cars is bcos not many people are driving AP cars!

btw about the gearbox jerking, have you changed your atf?
Good question, I just came out of bsri at 45k kms. Last svc was 39k kms in Dec and I don't think they did AT service.

Full compressor change is almost 7k but then they said Bmw recommendation is when compressor change, must change condenser else compressor warranty is void , that's another almost 6k.

Is AT oil change even in the service schedule? I thought the practice is use until the gearbox needs a change for German cars?

These f...ersjust want to sell u the car. After that they don't really care.

If your luck not good u will be saddled with all sorts of problems. That's why most people just sell off their cars when they encounter problems.

Even under warranty got problem. Also have to wait for long time.

In Msia, consumer protection virtually non existent.

It's really buyer beware.

I've been driving second hand BMWs for almost 15 years now. E30, E36 and now E90.

I dare not buy second hand anymore for newer models.

Planning to get F10 new with 5 years warranty.

Then pray nothing major happens esp after warranty expires as I plan to keep the car for a few years after that.

Goks. U just have to be patient and push for the best deal possible with BMW.

However if you cannot afford the hassle time wise, then u may consider repairing it outside.

These guys don't really care about you. They are only interested in selling new cars.

Not only BMW, almost all of them. Consumer's right is their least priority.

If you think BMW sucks, wait till you try Audi or to be exact, euromobil malaysia

Thanks Guys. I hardly drive and travel allot so I really would wait For Bmw to come back. It's just in believable that the BMW reliability is so bad, this is like worse then Proton. I can imagine if this failure happens after 5 or 6 years but not at 3.5 years and at 45k mileage.

I agree fully, have had 2 friends who had major issues with their cars. However audi hasn't reached mainstream, it's still a niche brand in Malaysia.

Bmw on the other hand prides itself as a mainstream luxury brand, it should not be reaching the state of Audi.
