hey there my fellow beemer fans, i just joined the club and i was wondering if any of you would be so kind as to help me out with some information with regards to the bmw e39 525i and the e30... my dad who isnt such a bmw freak or a car freak a, i am is planing to get a bmw soon...so i found this gorgeous looking e39 525i year 2000 model for sale for about 83k..its made in 2000 but only registered in 2006 and has slightly over 100,000km to it..the car has a brand new paint job and new tyres and the engine looks super good and clean.and it drives well.the suspension and the engine is still powerful..but thats the problem the car sounds too good to be true and frm my experiences in life when something sounds to good to be true it usually is...soo wat else should i check for to be safe....i read about diagnostic tests that can be done on the car but im not sure how to do it and how to interpret it..well thats one beemer...the second car that im looking at is an e30 for myself...my friends uncle is selling one and he said that the engine is still in good condition..however my querry is that there is a perception that old cars like the e30 are expensive to maintain and you cant get parts anymore...is that true??...wat else should i expect frm the e30 in terms of maintainence ???any help is utmostly appreaciated :)

welll a friend of mine has the 1990 e30 and it looks gorgeous to me..i took the car for a drive and even for an old car it still corners excellently and its powerful...and i would say that the main point is its looks...it looks like a muscle car....and in the 80's it was one of the most highly prized cars...the m3 concept was derieved frm this car....and the car that i wana get was made in the year i was born soo i guess in some wierd superstitious way we have something in common...

and bro, i just joined this club yesterday and im not sure how it all works...but dunt worry trial and error is the way of life..i will find out...thanx a million :)

I have to agree with you that the E30 is the best looking 3 series.IMO I think it went downhill(design wise) since then. So,which one did you get to try?hopefully it was more than the 320.I had the pleasure of owning a JPS version way back in 1987(yeah,I'm old). The only other Beemer I had until lately. And you know what?I think I enjoyed the E30 more than I'm enjoying the E60.

Go for it bro, find a well kept one(tuff i know) and keep it well and avoid some Jap crap Batman wings and all.It would look awesome.

Welcome to the club and best of luck:top:

thanx guna for some encouragement....hahaha....yea im just looking at the cost of maintainence cuz im paying for it on my own so i dunt wana get stuck in a rut by buying the car and not knowing where to get and how much the parts are gn cost...u have an e60???....bro, thats such an awesome car but i think the car has too much electronics....i drove the e60 525 and when i was at about 120 i wanted to shift bck into 3rd gear and i dunt noe why it didnt allow me...i think the computer didnt want to allow me to downshift at such hi revs to protect it.....but the e39 doesnt do that which is awesome....this my sound iddiotic but if im driving something that i bought for sheer performance, a computer chip shuldnt tell me wat i can and cannot do(to quote jeremy clarkson)

i am glad to hear there're young people like you who appreciates the E30 for what it is. it is very seldom i come across enthusiasts like yourself. i hope you find the right E30 for yourself soon. do get to know the E30 experts here; with their guidance, you won't be making too many errors and will be enjoying your ownership from day 1.

Yep,got the e60 530 Hamman version and I'm glad atleast you think it's awesome(I'm yet to be impressed).Don't get me wrong,it's a great car to drive, power and all but it's still a b**ch.The chances are the OBC kicked in to not allow such a downshift for safety reasons.Good point though for me to mess with.Jeremy Clarkson is cool and he is also from the old school and so you have to take some of his comments with a pinch of salt(get my drift?).Besides,he can afford to break anything and get away with it(nice job isn't it?)

My brother in law has an e30,an e46 and now contemplating the newer ones. While he is prepared to get rid of all others, the e30 he won't.That car gives you that kinda feelings of sentiment.Hope you find a nice car and keep it.

hahaha...pinch of salt??...good one...bro i have a blog that features cars and stuff...the site is www.autobros.blogspot.com check it out and let me know what you think....im getting a few of my friends cars featured on it soon....one of it is a beautiful e36....totally stunning...sooo upon checking out the site if you want to feature your car or any other car for that matter just let me know alrite

Roger that dude,I would make it a point to check it out soon. It's great to know you have as much enthusiasm.I'm just so preoccupied with a few other forums and will get to it as soon.:top:
