Hi there,I am new to this forum, but I have been an avid e30 fan and been a forum member of great e30 forums such as r3vlimited.com and e30tech.com almost 3 years and own 2 e30's at the moment The reason why I joined here is because I am planing to move to Malaysia (KL) in near future and needed to find out valuable info about e30's in M'asia. Currently I have 1987 Bronzit color e30 and 1988 silver color with m50 fitted and I own a s52 which I planned to swap into my bronzit e30 but never got a chance.Since I am moving to KL from the USA, I had decided to sell my beloved e30s but I will be bringing the s52 along with the tranny to M'asia. Here are my question.1. What are the legal procedures involve when it comes to engine swaps? I am planing to swap this s52 into an e30.2. Are there reliable BMW techs around KL.Appreciate your inputs.

Hmm

Come on guys. Help a brother.
No one knows what I'm asking or no one gives a rats ass about what I need to know.

1. What are the legal procedures involve when it comes to engine swaps? I am planing to swap this s52 into an e30.
It is too much hassle and we usually engage a runner to do the procedures. We are allow to increase the engine capacity to a certain percentage which I am not too sure the exact figure.

2. Are there reliable BMW techs around KL
Yes there are plenty. My mechanic is one of them.

Thanks

Thanks for the input. So that means it is not possible for e30 body to have a 3.2L motor in Malaysia? that's fucked up. But if I'm not mistaken someone in this forum already done that swap. appreciate if anyone could chime on this.

if you have da $$$, it can be done :listen:

Yes, it can be done.
There're few forumers here have converted to S52 too.

It is just not as easy as in US, whereas you pass Highway Patrol Inpection, and SMOG, you are good to go.
You just need to poke around more. Come out from a drink (aka TT), talk to few people, and get to know friend who know friend that have a friend, it can be done without much sweat. Giving that you have extra molla to spare :D

Are you native here? Which part of US ?
And Welcome to Malaysia, and BMWCM club. :)

Cheers

swapping any engine with any capacity is possible as long you have the *cha chings~
i am so darn interested in seeing your beloved E30 here soon, welcome to the hood bro!!

Thanks for the input really. That is the kind of info I really need to hear. appreciate if you guys can educate me more on this highway patrol inspection thing, how wud they know what type of motor under the hood and the capacity of the motor? i am familier with the SMOG test as we all have to go thru that shit over here in US
That is really a good idea to have drink with you guys and get some contacts to begin with, but this has to be done once I move to KL.

I am not a native of M'asia but I have ties thru my family, my wife is a M'asian and the first time I've been to KL I fell in love with it

here are few pictures of my bronzit e30. as you all know, this has ugly US spec diving board bumers which I painted in body color and the front bumper is drilled and tucked in all the way. Car has RD Gen 1 side skirts, Mtech-1 boot spoile (e28 version) and BBS front spoiler (everything original pieces respectivley)

Thanks for the input, yeah i'm well aware that any capacity can go under the hood, in fact i'ver personally seen some wicked e30's with S38B35 and LS1 and LS2 motors swapped in, but i have no knowledge of how the legal system in M'asia works when it comes to these things, i mean car motors and all that. I do know one thing that they tax you according to the capacity of the motor you have in your car.

As for my e30 pictures, I already uploaded some picture and published the links, I will put my sliver e30(m50 fitted) over the week end.

Thanks,
EEEE30

You can fit any engine to any car in US, as long as you pass the inspection, and SMOG.
In Malaysia( legally as far as I know), you are only allow to increase 20% of displacement based on the original engine that come with the car. For example, if your E30 is a 2.0, you are allow to fit in 2.4L engine in it.

But this is Malaysia. Nobody follow that. :D
You only inspect your car once with PUSAKOM, after purchase, to get the "title" register under your name.
After that, there is no more inspection. You can do anything you want to the car, as long as you don't get stopover. :D :D
And almost no cops will borther you how you drive on the road. They you just send you a ticket to your house , in mail, few weeks later.

We have a lot to talk about. :D :D you will love Malaysia.
I do, after 8 years in States.

Well then that works for me :top:

It's pretty simple, lets say you were to go through the hassle of registering such a major engine transplant (need approved engine import papers, bunch of forms in malay language, trips to JPJ(DMV), official inspection, under the table money etc). The road tax (registration) for a 3.2 is like 1k USD per year compared to a M40B18 road tax of $70 a year. Now wouldn't it be a shame then if you "forgot" to register the swap?

Wut?

What r u trying to say here?
I wud tell you one thing though, there is no way I'm going to drive an e30 with such a weak engine as m40. (boosted or not, m40 is a weak engine)

so you are saying it is roughly RM3500/ year just as tax for s52 motor? that's fucking ridiculous man :stupid:

anyone know a work around to this.

Yes.
You put the S52 in, and you "forgot" to tell the authority.
That's what Cempaka is trying to say. :)

what happens if they found out?? just lay them some green under the table??? :listen:

How they find out ?
If I throw a S52 and M52 engine infront of you, are you able to tell ? ;)

My other ride

Here are the pictures of my other ride. M50 swapped e30. Shell is 1988 IS and has 130K miles on the clock. M50 is out of a 525I which had 80K on the clock when did the swap and so far I've driven only 300 miles. I haven't done any other upgrade to this interior or body wise. I like to keep the "sleeper" status.
What a blast to drive.
