Absolutely. My dad had a W124, a 300E-24, which was a German tank and we had it for a decade. Quite a fast one, too. Reliable as hell, and never had a problem with the engine bay. The only dodgy electronics on it was the electric seats. Other than that it was a trooper. I wish cars were still built like that. Compare it to my 8yo E240 I have, it's gone in for an engine rebuild already, and the tranny needs an overhaul. The small digital meters/LCDs on the dash haven't been working for the past half decade. The ECU is currently quite buggered, and the car can't decide if it has 150hp or 70hp. It was great for the first 6 years or so, but somehow, with all the electronic gadgetry inside, it's just so much more fragile. But yes, technology is what drives forward each new iteration of these cars, and it's the differentiating factor when it comes to the salesroom floor. These cars are so much more comfortable now, with gadgets and buttons to pander to our every whim. That's the price we pay for that level of comfort. It's the price we pay to subscribe to a leading-edge brand which prints out magazines detailing all sorts of technological enhancements and wonders that the vast majority of the readers won't understand. It's the price we pay for all sorts of safety systems we need, and some we don't. It's the price we pay for hitting a hundred in less than 7 seconds (claimed, but I think it's lies!) and carving through a turn the way a Camry could only dream of. So while we complain about our E60s and its weaker aspects, please note the looks of envy other drivers give when we effortlessly overtake them :P
