Look good bro but look can be deceiving hence take a good mechanic and GT1 to double check.

My basic check list to short list my dream car
1. GT1 Scan / BMW Scanner 1.4
2. Visual check under the car, body and engine to see if any repairs done recently... especially for parts with pink marker (means items are from chopshop) cooling, engine and suspension parts must be new for your safety.
3. Start the engine to listen for rough noise or vacuum leak noise, run the car till its hot
4. Drive the car to check the gearbox condition and any other noise.
5. The steering must not have free play or noise
6. check every lights and electronics are working
7. Use your smart phone and check the VIN online to see if anything are missing items are retrofitted ie rainsensor, M Sport shocks, etcs

2.2 engine sound large but its a little underpower for such huge sedan therefore your fuel consumption may hurt ie RM110 will offer you 350km in the city

Good luck bro

Bmw7833.... good one ah

Bro as. I just myself the 520i. Fuel consumption on average is rm120 for 500-600km with timing out, ori vanos seal, leakages here and there...hehe. so now doing the repair at my usual mech. Mileage 100k km when I got it

E39 520i is a great highway cruiser. She brought me more than 800km / tank before, with light-footed driving style. Our relationship lasted 2 years.

Be SUPER careful when buying from used-car dealers....

Yes i agree, if possible look for 525i with a M54B25 2500cc engine. More power and better fuel consumption. This is one heavy car to move around.

I bought my 520i a year ago as I did not come across a good condition 525i. 525i was my initial model that I wanted.

My 520i 2200cc engine fuel consumption is around 440km for RM 100 RON95 RM1.90/litre. Once on the highway cruising it can hit 650km easily with the same amount of fuel.

Be prepared (financially and emotionally) to expect some repairs on:
1. ABS/ASC module.
2. CCV or Oil separator and the 4 hoses.
3. VANOS seals (still drivable if you are not fussy).
4. Valve seals (if consuming engine oil).
5. Absorbers.
6. Undercarriage plastic covers/shield including mudguards.
7. Cooling system (Radiator, expansion tank, hoses, water pump).
8. MID and Meter cluster pixel repair.
9. Engine and transmission mountings.
10. Front & rear axle support system (arms, bush, ball joints, bearings).
11. Spark plugs and ignition coills.
12. Headlights height adjuster fix.
13. Fuel pump & filter.
14. Transmission rebuilt.

Not trying to scare you but these are some things that I went through and going through. This list is some of the problems of E39 but not limited to these only. It's a routine to all used cars that you will buy now or in the future not only limited to BMW.

Hi, Bro tweiboon,
I has a friend driven 2003 525i and now just changed to MB C200 CGI, heard different stories from him....he said this MB C200 is better than BMW 5 in terms of pick-up and FC.
I sat inside can feel it is very responsive !

Agree with psykit quote. I owned M54B22 too & replace most of the thing listed. Btw, i never notice RM100 fuel can last for 440km. Mine with RM100 RON95 can last only 280km for city drive. Why there is so huge different?

Bro BMW520,

Check tire pressure, VANOS seals, Spark plugs and ignition coils and engine oil viscosity. Mine is on 10W-40 Semi Synthetic oils.

Driving style also affects a lot. If I am full throttling most of the time, mileage will suffer too.:burnout:

Bro Teh, 280km for RM100 is very heavy foot!
