Hi there,Im planing to purchase a used BMW, now stuck on choosing E36 or E46...My friend is a typical workshop mechanic, he told me E36 is more reliable due to lesser electronic part & E46 however look nice, but due to the increasing of electronic part and technology the engine wear&tear and failure of the part was high (he have mention there is a badge of e46 having common sensor issue)...Please share your experience and opinion to me to make a right choose on my plan.PS: My friend wasnt a BMW specialist, that why i need the feedback form the end user. Many many Thanks...

Hi Lemontea

Its very much a chicken and egg thing. too say one has less problem its not entirely true. there is also the luck and the service history factor.
key point i can note out for your consideration is that
1) e36 half cut harder to find therefore second hand parts are getting less.
2) e46 twin cam 2 liter engine according to a half cut shop owner is prone to having issue. single cam 1.9 less issue.
3) higher cc gearbox lesser issues for e46

at the end of the day it all boils down to service history. if the car is well maintained then less issue.

yup that's right. the key point is try to find a car with service history and you'll be happy at the end of the day. e36 is reliable and fun to drive only now no finance available compared to e46. the lifetime for some of parts may due so you'll need to change it

If you're a Charlize Theron type, go for the E46

If you're Cameron Diaz type, go for the E36

I think what bro V-Man trying to say is that doesn't matter which one you choose both are beautiful, sexy and guaranteed to give you good times but also high maintenance lol :4:
