No increase in fuel price PETALING JAYA: There will be no increase in petrol price, Finance Minister II Tan Sri Nor Mohamad Yakcop said Friday. He dismissed rumours that the Government would increase petrol price soon, following the recent reduction in road tax. "Is petrol price going up? The answer is no," he told reporters. He, however, did not say if oil prices would remain the same throughout the year. Dunno for how long laaa ....

Good to hear this, but the scary thing is he did not say how long it will hold.

Well, it's good for the rest of the year...that's what they say. Anyway, must say that's a relief and kudos to the govt. (unless somewhere in between they choke)

Anything below RM2.20 per litre for RON97 I happy already lar. Of course, the lower the price the better.

it's USD2.97/gallon for RON97 here in California.

But then the average joes there gets about USD2k/month starting pay. minus income tax still got USD1000 - USD1500 (~RM3500 - ~RM5000)

USD2.97/gallon (US Gallon = 4 liter) so it's about RM2.60/liter...

Techincally, they can afford to pay dearer fuel bcos they have better buying power..

Point is, I don't think we mind paying for unsubsidised petrol if we are benefitting from stronger state of economy.. We all can see that we have great potential with our reserves of natural resources and land and timber but GOD knows where all the monies had gone over the years...

minyak tak naik, tapi toll dan lain lain naik. takda perbezaan. tunggulah, bila berita kabar angin ni jadi senyap sementara. sure akan naik or something else!

but the cost of living of a US person is also high. Take home pay is only about 60%, not withstanding the GST that they have to pay for everything they consume. For example here in California, it is 8.25%. Things are also expensive so it weighs out.

What can you get for RM800/mo here in terms of accomodation rental? basically nothing. USD800/mo likely.

Msia should go for unsubsidised fuel so that we don't have to live in an artificial economy. Too much tongkat.

To zero in on the tongkat issue, better to get rid of the NEP and its preferrential treatment for the preferred citizens.... better way to gain a non artificial economy

USA is a huge country, it all depends on where you live.

Certain states that are located nearer to the refineries will have cheaper petrol. In oklahoma (i just checked), petrol or gas as they called it is about USD 2.00. So that works out to be RM 1.88 per liter. This issue was already brought up to the recent Parliment sitting and the reply was the government needed to recover earlier subsidies incurred. Please check the hansard. Anytime when crude oil prices dip below USD 60 a barrel, we are more or less paying ""real"" fuel prices.

Likewise, please do similar calculation when gas prices was less than 1 USD per gallon, but it was RM 1.09 in Malaysia, with exchange rate 1USD=RM2.46 (in the early 90s). That was during my time in the states and wasnt all of us aware that US has one of the cheapest oil prices there and hence all the big engine capacity cars? Why did we pay double back then when crude oil prices were hovering around USD 15/barrel?? Heads I win, tails you lose.

Its true, personal tax is higher there, but at least there is no toll, cheaper cars, cheaper houses (dollar to dollar basis), cheaper food, cheaper electrical appliances, plenty of free public amenities and etc. At the end of the day, there is more disposable income for the family. How many here could afford a holiday in the summer like the majority of the Americans?

I think we should stop discussing about toll increase and the current petrol price. If one can afford a BMW, toll and fuel should not be an issue. This is a prestigious BMW Club, not a Proton Club. There is a standard to be maintained.

Toll increase and petrol price concerned each and everyone of us on the street. No one would voice discontent if the increase is justified. Even TDM now agreed it's unjustified, wonder what uncle samy has under his sleeve for his next public statement?

Giving subsidy is not entirely a bad thing. Just like a knife, it can be beneficial if used correctly. No country should avoid giving subsidy like a plague. Germany, for example subsidizes its country's tertiary education. This privilege is extended to non-citizens as well. And, I don't see any Germans complaining about this. Malaysia is a corrupt nation, that is a hopeless nation. Yes, that is what we are. Shame on us. Nothing will work - including any form of subsidy or affirmative action. We can't even stay united. It is going to be the next Philippines. Our colonial masters knew this a long time ago. Having said this, from now on we should not compare our country to other developed countries because we started off with the wrong footing, different aspirations and keep on continue making the same mistakes over and over again. Because of its corrupt nature, basically you will not get the true value of what you pay. Overpriced cars, houses, highway projects and the list goes on. By the end of this year, GST will be introduced and things will become worse. Also, because of its corrupt nature, wrong leaders were chosen all the time. TDM was a good leader? Think again! He was a smart and brave leader but why didn't he used his power and talents to wipe out corruption? I believe not many has asked this question.

^^^or the next indonesia (God help us).....

now people only complain and whine because jobs are still available... the rakyat rather bitch about it and the occasional demonstration to vent frustrations for now.... people still boleh 'cari makan' as they say....

wait till..... the time when people have no jobs, mahu cari makan pun susah, have to give bribes just to secure a job... that's when all the violence will creep in slowly and a lot more people will suffer.... by that time people will have a lot of unspent 'energy' to cause an uproar just like our neighbours across the straits...

hope this worse case senario does not happen in our beloved bolehland..... amen
