Everyone who has swapped engines went for upgrade, and I think I may be the only one who has opted for a downgrade. My E39 530i suffered overheating and mechanic suspected engine block may have cracked because engine oil flooded the cooling system. On the advice of my mechanic, I decided to swap the M54B30 for a M54B25. The mechanic did only the engine swap. I have been driving the car for one week now and I am facing several issues: 1) The car feels sluggish (of course there is 40hp less) but I have driven my brother's E60 525i with M54B25 too and it's definitely more powerful. 2) The gear shifts are also less responsive when I stomp on the accelerator. The responsive nature of a BMW automatic gearbox has gone. 3) The engine vibrates at certain combination of RPM and car speed. I have yet to pinpoint and emulate the problem. I told my mechanic that there are stuff to be re-programmed from what I gather from several forums. He says these are beyond his capabilities and I am now stucked. Hope someone can advice where I can get the DME or even the EGS re-programmed to suit the M54B25 engine. Thank you very much. Regards, Chung
