Just got my E46 2.0L 6cyclinder Japan spec. Already drive around the car for 3 days. Found out the car not moving fast and RPM was 2.5k. Eventually can hear loud engine sound start from 0-60km/h. My driving style like old man, slow and steady. Very weird compared to my previous E36 328. This E46 seem to be very lazy to move his ass from 0-60km/h. Tested RM50 can only go 200km even drive like uncle. Anyone come across this experience before ? hope can share the problem together. I've done RM15k on exterior & paint. The whole car looks like new beauty but im dissapointed with the performance. Im sure something is wrong.

haha guess wat, today i changed spark plug from stock BMW to Denso Iridium. New sound came out from air flow sensor. whenever i step on the accelerator pedal, a funny "FOO" sound came out.

So is your car performing much better now, after changing to iridium spark plugs? How much are the spark plugs?

Cheers :top:

Bro,
Cooper is the best conductor of electric. Platinum and Iriduim plugs are only coated on the tip. Iriduim plug are good plugs that operations at high temperature & high revs with low percentage of miss firing. Question is do we operate our cars at that high temperature! I think track racing machines yes. Our daily drive.?

No doubt copper is the best conductor but the principle of arcing in the combustion chamber is thru high voltage which is step up via the ignition coil. If you observe careful, the spark from the spark plug actually flash over from the tip of the plug to the body via the air gap of the spark plug. So where is the 'good conductor" between the tip and the body?

Nope..just regular maintenance of the vehicle at every interval of 6-7k. On the other hand, i have a mixture of highway + city driving + uncle driving style at times. However, at times when i am heavy footed, Rm100 can take me about 510km only :)

OMGGG, RM100 can go 550km ? i pump RM70 can go only 280km (highway +city), im going to send to M1 to check on this friday. By the way how do i insert my engine photo here ? really thanks u guys for giving me those info :D

The result came out to be M52, wat is M52 ? i double checked on the AP paper, its clearly stated 1998cc and manufactured on 2001.

RM 70- 280Km? Unless you are a heavy footed guy, u better check you car coz its like $0.25/km. Mine works out to average $0.18/km only. Also according to fuel specialist, its better to load up full tank & you will gain more petrol mileage.

Haha , i send my baby to M1. Boss told me the valve air licking. Thats the reason y im having lost power and high fuel comsumption. It will only cost me around 300++ to fix the valve. Beside repair the valve, i also told the boss (casey) to re-install my absorber (sitting in wrong place), tighten steering, on wheel balancing and alignment. Well, the boss told me that every E46 has the common problem which door rubber give alot erk erk sounds. Just need to apply oil to it and the sound will gone. :DDDD

Bro, Glad that you found the root cause of high fuel consumption. :top:
Btw, the back of my car also gives the 'erk erk erk' sound.
Where is the door rubber exactly located? Thanks.
