Assalamualaikum and good day gents and ladies, 1st time BMW owner and just recently took the plunge abd bought myself an X5 recon japan spec 3.0 2001. The radio needs a booster and was quoted RM180 for it, but a friend told me there's a way to adjust the radio freq range without boosters. Is there any truth to this? if so could someone point me in the right direction, thanks.

Hi...first off...that's one long screen name :D

2nd, this is a community here, and a warm and supportive one at that, trust me on this. But we need you to be part of the community before we help each other out. I suggest you follow the proper protocol of new members and introduce yourself formally in the newbies section first before successful solicitation of help.

Cheers...

Hi Azrul,
All you need is a modulator to adjust the radio's frequency. Only problem is that for example, if you want to listen to FM92.9, the correct frequency in your radio is Fm 80.9. Just minus 12 from the actual frequency. Hope this helps...

Modulator?

Bro roland1888,

Further info on this 'modulator' if possible please... Like: where to source and how to fit, what does it do, how much $$$ etc. Appreciate the help. :)

Well, I can only relate based on my own experiences with my wife's car and mine. We did it at our friendly neighborhood accessory shop. As both our car are from Japan, I had a modulator fixed behind the headunit. Basically, it functions the same as a regular radio. Cost is definitely reasonable. Can't remember exactly how much but I think it is in the region of more than RM50 and less than RM100. Hope this helps...

But somebody I know had unsatisfactory results with the modulator installed in his JDM Estima. Poor radio reception, he said.

Works fine on my car though, maybe something wrong with his car's antenna?

hey fellas help my buddy out would appreciate it very much!!

Dear guru, I think it is up to your buddy now to actually help himself out by asking the accessory shops. I can only give my fair share of experience and point him at the right direction. It is like I said, a VERY simple processs...:)

Brothers Accessory shops do sell modulators. They quoted me RM140 (supply and install). But they told me that the reception may not be good in some areas.
