Recently did my transplant and what I noticed from the gearbox is this, when i engage the gear to D, the back of my car sinks down and when i put it back to N it goes back up. The mech told me that its normal because of the engagement but i have tried a few friend's e36 and e46 but they dont have this problem. This is the third gearbox already that im changing. Anybody having the same prob?

Yes I already did, its like when at a traffic light u stop and shift to N and when u shift to D to move the cars back will go down, its like for example when stationary and i shift the gear to D, N, D, N, the backside of the car from the outside will be going up down up down which is very obvious and not comfortable while in the car, need some opinions in this as my mech keep insisting that this is normal.

i have the same problem but happen only once a while and i think is normal according to the mechanic

Mee too... my E36 sama saja. I suspect it is the idle rpm is too high and also the absorbers are about to die.. too soft.

My absorbers and springs are brand new, so i dont know whether to continue changing gearbox or what, this is the 4th gearbox already.

ya the mech also said that my car too powerful haha, then i said if its tru then 330 when u engage to D the car will jump infront? lol, tombstone why do you say so?

Yes,its normal if its not very obvious.Like ur mech says it is the engagement.Dont compare it with a brand new car with a brand new auto transmission,i knw u dont find that on a new car.hope that helps

lildevil,

Is your car 325 (with vanos)? and you have 5 speed ZF auto box?

Is yes, is same like mine 525, i have that symtom too, tot that because our car is too powerful...hehe..bukan ke? E36-M3 also use that ZF box wor...

But my friends e36 328i is perfect, not to say that im expecting the same but i can feel my body jerking while inisde the car which isnt very nice to feel. Yes its a 325 vanos with 5 speed but not ZF auto box but Jatco.

nono, i meant, why do u say that my car is in optimum?

I do agree with lildevil that this is not normal.

The Gearbox ECU and the engine ECU will control the power delivery and idle speed. Guess something might be faulty, suspect, gearbox ECU, or ICV or there a vacumm leak somewhere.

By the way, did the ICV bring the rpm back to 800 after it drop to 600 when gear is engaged from D/P? If it doesnt then something is wrong.

I am keen to know too..

geofrey i dont quite get it, when should the rpm drop and when should it go back up? tombstone.... how u know that is my car? lool. but seriously, how u know?

i wish it was normal too but my friends e36 328i does not have this problem. and mine isnt minor too.

The choice is yours. Yr car is 4 speed wright your friend 328 is it 4 speed or 5 speed.
