hi, i got 2 friends of mine lost their cars within 2 days; one because of robbery while having hair treatment in a saloon (kulai, johor), the other friend parked his car outside of the Tune hotel in KB overnight and noticed it is gone while on the way to breakfast...i would like to know, since our f10 is using key FOB, is it possible to steal the car without the key FOB ( heard cars being stolen all the time in foreign country, but in Malaysia are those thieves capable of stealing the car with the signal interceptor???)i know nothing much we can do with hijacking other then being alert all the time esp before enter and leaving the car...these 2 incidents make me actually considering whether to install the bmw assist thingy... what do u guys think???

I thought BMW has very sophisticated security ? Any sifu will like to comment abt this as an advise to newbies ?

You can't drive the F10 away without the keyfob. It's got a proximity sensor. If you're worried, you can opt for a RM 6K package by Auto Bavaria that tracks your car via GPS and all you need to do is call them to disable the car.

You cant drive away a F10 but you can towed it away. How many people would actually report to
thr police when the car alarm goes off?

That's provided that if the F10 is equipped with an alarm...

Towing will set off the tilt sensor causing the alarm to buzz..... unless quickly whack the window, open the bonnet and whack the alarm speaker.....then no alarm sound.
Like what Jarance had just said, no one really care to call police once alarm is set off. Low tech method also can steal the car easily..

Our F10 does not have alarm. Only got immobiliser. Even for 7-Series, not all model got alarm.

To prevent car from being towed away, you can park reverse in since the Rear wheel is locked. And try to find an end lot parking next to a wall/ curb next to your rear wheel to prevent them from using a 2-wheeler tow dolly.

Mine does actually, and I wasn't aware of it until after I locked my car and see a beacon flashing below the rear view mirror. After getting my VIN checked, confirmed the alarm's there...

so thats mean that i need to spend some money to install the alarm, and some sensor??

Would being towed by MPSJ considered "stolen"Even with the alarm blazing i don't think they will stopped. So i think it is easy if the bad guys has tow truck. For those that stay in Subang Jaya, you can test if your f10 is an easy meat by parking at the road side outside McDonald SS15.

I meant our local spec... hehe.

Any idea why it does not come standard in Malaysian specs..?

I found this on BMW Germany website as i ordered it for my F10. The cost of having the alarm is Euro 363 without tax. The details of the alarm systems is translated by using google translator, so it is a little bit messy.

Alarm system (S0302)
With the alarm system with remote control, and the standard anti-theft electronic immobilizer your BMW is well secured. Event of an attempted or solves the removal of acoustic alarm signals and simultaneously switches on the hazard warning flashers. In addition, the alarm system on a vehicle interior monitoring and tilt sensor alarm that can be turned off separately if required. The alarm is not generated by an externally accessible emergency siren, which remains even in the event of a power interruption functional.
Your benefits:
Effective protection against (wheels) theft and vehicle burglaries

Pretty reasonable price for a BMW option!

actually there isn't any point in an alarm. it does not really help but make lot of annoying noise which no one will care but the local ah beng modification car accessories guy sure confirm tell u ur normal car alarm no use one la need change then they show u photo on how many of their customers car had a failed theft attempt. in any case, bmw stock immobiliser is one of the best out there and i remember they wont some Whatcar? security award thingy. threw the magazine away already.

How easy it is to steal a bimmer depends on whether it's brand new or recond. Brand new bimmers (previously) come with four keys and now the F10 comes with two keys, which are all given to the new owner. A recond bimmer may come with the complete set of keys (if you are lucky), but it's usually less. So there is a high possibility one or more of your keys are in the hands of the recond car dealer or some other unscrupulous people.

My personal advice - BUY THE BEST STEERING LOCK YOU CAN AFFORD - if you buy a recond F10, or any other recond bimmer, and get less than four or two keys. In fact, even if you have a brand new bimmer - BUY THE BEST STEERING LOCK YOU CAN AFFORD. After all what's a few hundred ringgit to safeguard your quarter-of-a-million-ringgit, or more, investment.

Salut

i only got 2 keys with my bimmer, where's my other 2?

Only the Good Lord knows. I seem to remember a forummer going to a local chopshop to by an extra key and finding out that it could open all his car doors and start it without any modification. Can't seem to find the thread anymore though.

Anyway Mr P, don't feel bad, I have only two keys too.

Salut
