OK. Let me meyampuk a bit based on what I know. 1) Insurance Panel workshop scheme are basically meant for those non-franchise workshop i.e. those independent workshop you see lurking by highway with their call man/agent/salesman. They are not related to any manufacturer. If a workshop is not under the panel of a particular insurance company they cannot repair your car and claims from them. You have to bring the car out from them and go to those workshop which is in the panelship. 2) Authorised or what we call franchise workshop are basically those that comes under the management of the authorised distributor like Auto Bavaria, UMW (toyota), EON & Proton, Federal Auto (for volvo) etc. 3) Franchise workshop doesnt need to be under the insurance panelship scheme to claim. They are in automatically. So, we can send our Beemer (regardless of under which insurance co) to AB for accident repair and still be able to claim from the insurance company. Why so and why cant those independent repairer do this? Simple, AB give businesses to this insurance company but independent workshop dont. So AB expect them to give them back some repair business via accident claims. If not, AB can tell all their cust to go for other insurance. 4) Since AB has the upper hand, AB can basically dictate what are the labour charges, part price etc is like and normally the insurance has to accept it. Therefore, if (touch wood) any of you met with an accident, try your VERY BEST to go back to AB because whatever AB ask for in the claims, the insurance will surely pay one albeit being very expensive. If not, AB can complain easily whereas independent workshop just keep quiet and put in second hand parts. Thats is why most of the time, if you ask the insurance company which workshop to go to after an accident, they will surely tell you to go to those independent workshop like Masterbody (USJ), CIty Alignment (Kayu Ara), Thong Hing (KL) where they are under the insurance co mercy. 5) For your information, AB is working very closely with Takaful Ikhlas (TI), a rather new insurance co. TI is hoping to get as much business as possbile from all new cars sold by AB. So, buying ins from Takaful Ikhlas is better because they will not simply "slash" the claims amount by approving for used parts, non-original parts etc. Believe me, if you send to outside workshop, you will see this happening. They need to "jaga" AB baik baik. 6) But the main problem is most of the time during an accident the owner don't know or unable to get the tow truck to send the car to AB. This is because those call-man/tow-truck dirver will harrass the owner into alllowing them to tow the car away to their own workshop. Plus, the owner is normally stilll in the state of shock and confused at that time. Once your car is in their workshop, you will have a hard time taking it out and send to AB. You will need to pay something like RM500 or so for towing fee unless you are a i) Taiko in Klang Valley or ii) Your Father, mother, uncle, sis etc is a police officer. What we can do is group together and buy from one insurance and then get the access clause strike off or better still get them to sponsor some of our event. Fuyoh. Damn tired typing the above. Anyway, hope it helps. More to come. After my next jug Arms
