I've been in an E46M3 and crashed in Sepang as a passenger...for all I know that kind of impact will totalled a japanese car.
To my surprise...we oversteered spun 360 twice and went striaght on to a wall. well. Nothing happened to us.

Ask our Master Eric...I think he knows whos car.
Then our famous Botak friend oso.... we saw it and he survived...Two crashes..one in Sepang and the other one not long ago.

I've learn my defensive driving not from car racing. I've learned it thru daily driving at night,long haul journeys from those old unker driving trucks.
Its not how fast you drive it.How fast you reached your destination.

Its more of self conscience and getting to the destination safely.

might be the orthodox,but it does works.
