With the huge increase in petrol price + electricity tariff and the after effect of the two i.e increased cost of transportation resulting in increased cost of fod and other goods etc with the net effect of a much higher cost of living - do you reckon we are going to see a plunge in the >2000cc car market?

I think mostly effected will be 2500cc above .. SIgh ..

oopss.. i saw another tread for the subsidy ..i think mostly effected are 2000> above..

p/s: If this is true, means that our car become value liao ... < i mean below 2000- 319/318/316 >

There will be a drop in second hand car prices. Those above 2000cc will definitly be affected as these buyers are looking at 3 to 4 years old car and are sensitive to pricing.

..Yep. Talk to good friend from used car business line. He said car above 3000cc is now ..."DEAD!!" Can't sell!! Price drop like hell. So by a quarter or half from now....recent Nissan Fairlady cost will meet the price of E46 318 ci!!!
But Nissan is Nissan la & BMW is sheer driving pleasure.:top:

I don't think so. The current price spread is pretty justifiable with all the added features.

I would guess now the 2L car would move up to match the higher end price, of course with added features la.

There was a good program on CNN-Lifestyle (I think) which highlighted this phenomenon in the states. Prices for used cars and trucks with high capacity engines were plummeting more than 50% (less than 2 years old) and people opted to trade in these cars for fuel efficient ones.

However, from the economics of it, current car owners will be better off sticking with whatever they have (instead of trading in the current ride and buying a smaller capacity car) and should instead try to improve their driving habits and drive sensibly, whenever possible.

Cheers

Not only the car sector will slow down. Infact everything will be on a stand still at the moment....everyone or every industry will think of the best possible way "welcome" this fuel price hike. It will just be temporary....soon the ppl will forget/overcome and everything will back to normal. Human being hate changes but then again................ Life must go on ma!!!!!

Guess.. the change has started.

I see myself on the LRT today as I'll be in the office the whole day today.

Despite the increasing fuel price since 2004 but the vehicles sales are still growing.

Was just reading the Tesla website. It seems that the Tesla is assembled by Lotus in the UK, and Lotus Engineering provides some design/engineering services to Tesla. How I wish we can get to see such cars here in Malaysia without our exorbitant taxes. At USD109k for the base model, it's around the price of a heavily-taxed Malaysian 325i Sports. Our government should reward owners of fuel-efficient and "green" vehicles and not punish them (Civic Hybrid at around RM168k vs "regular" Civic around RM100-120k :stupid:).
