AB, good point on engine & GB mounting, but 2005 is a very new car. Have you isolated the vibration is from engine, gearbox, or only when air-cond is on? You mentioned vibration when in D, what about neutral? If its the engine, it could be a sign of an ignition coil failing. Even 1 unit fail can cause a very bad shaking and vibration on the engine. Steps to get your mechanic to check 1. Check ignition coil for spark plugs. Can switch the ignition coil between cylinder to test. (I just replaced 1 ignition unit of 6, cause engine shake when started) 2. Check spark plug point & also sign of engine oil on spark plug? 3. While checking spark plug, watch out for engine oil seeping through as well. A condition means cylinder head gasket need replacement. Replace the rubber seal for the nuts & bolts area as well. 4. Check MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. 5. If above still don't fix it, may want to try compression test on the cylinders. This I have not done for my e39. Cheers.
