Why bmw didn't name their car, only put numbers 1 series to 7 series?

Which is easier, coming up with a name or a number for a car?

The latter seems to be more easier to do, but at the risk of rendering it somewhat hard to make it stand out...

I know Bimmers are famous for their cars, but seems like more of the cars that 'stand' out are those which are either having amazing names or amusing ones...

I mean, come on, who can ever forget names like the Countach, Miura, Diablo, Murcielago, and on the other tip of the scale, seemingly hard to forget names like the Renault Kangoo, Mazda Bongo van, etc?

& don't get me started on how the Chinese name their cars man....
