Hi folks,Thought you might like to know how I solved my infamous M50 bouncing idle problem. See the green arrow? Changed that thingy and attached brake vacuum rubber hose and it's solved!

Here's a closeup view. B)

The original BMW part for M50 was something like RM80 a piece but the one for the E36 318i was only about RM40. So duh? I went for the E36 piece. Looks a little different but seems to work the same. So far so good! :D

Thanks.......My problem solve after i service my ICV and AFM.......Anyway thanks for the infor..... :)

BTW u already back to KL???? Do join us for the tomorrow Cheras TT....

This is the faulty part which caused the vacuum leak probably from the cracked plastic shell and also hardened rubber hose. Probably just a tiny little leak too but knowing BMW engines, it's enough to cause series idling mayhem and stalling. Been about 6 months since my DIY repair and i'm happy to report that my idling is perfect!

Hi Lionel! Glad to hear your problem is solved!! :yahoo:

I'm back from Singapore but not yet in KL. Still travelling a bit but I have my laptop and camera with me. All I need is an internet cafe with WIFI services and I'm with you guys!

Yup! This thingy is cheap and easy to replace. Replace it first and if it does not solve your problem then you got to look into servicing or replacing your Idling Control Valve or ICV. You can service your ICV only once. The second time you've got to change it. :)

Hmmmm, my idling is still bouncy.... that part in my car looks ok. Maybe there is a small leak which I cannot see. Think I will try changing that first.

Bimmerman, so far no problem using the cheaper E36 318i part?

Bimmerman, is the part number 13411433625??
if it is , its called a IDLE REGULATING VALVE.

Well so far so good Flash. I showed the part to the parts guy and asked for a replacement and it was he who suggested the cheaper E36 part.

This bouncing idle episodes we bimmermen have to face are usually always vacuum leak and ICV related. If you change that thingy and you r ICV is good and you still get poor idling you'll have to look into vacuum leaks elsewhere.

Not sure what the thingy is called and I don't have the part number but I told my parts guy it's attached to the brake pump via hose and he showed me a E34 part and E36 part.

How to service ICV..? DIY
To a certain extend yes, Zoggee helped me to clean my ICV before when my M40 was having some bad idling. It can be DIY of course.

Here you go, found a link for ya :
ICV cleaning steps

Unfortunately for the M50 series engines the ICV lives under the manifold(1) and to get to the ICV you must remove the oil filter housing (2) After that you have to feel your way under the manifold to get to the ICV. Not easy on the M50 series engines. Now why did BMW put it under there in the M50? :dunno:
