I started off with a 3 series (E30) then E36 and now the E39. The maintenance for the e30 is okay, the e36 is bearable and now the E39 which is a different ball game. Bear in mind that the E39 use to cost well over RM350k new and the parts replacement doesn't depreciate like the car value. What you are getting is a car which has won more than 25 awards worldwide making it the most successful version of the 5 series in terms of engineering, design and value. i have seen a lot of people dive into purchasing a e39 without having own a BMW before, and thats where the culture shock kicks in. The e39 cost a little more than RM100k now making it very affordable for those who are looking for a mid size saloon in the class of the Accords and Camry which cost about RM160k. It looks way too attractive on paper, but herein lies the gremlins. The E39 is never cheap to maintain in the first place compared to the 3 series. The rear absorber alone cost almost Rm500 whilst it is only Rm180 for the e36. That's a hugh jump in terms of parts replacement cost and the list goes on. I was prepared for this when i bought the e39, but then again i have graduated through the education system and am now waiting to do my PHd which will be the 7 series in the future. p.s the rear absorber for the 7 series alone cost close to 5 figure each.</p></blockquote><p></p>
