Fellas,I just returned from Munich, and want to share my experience. First impression, beautiful city, especially with all the BMW models zooming pass me on the autobahn. Visited the BMW Museum, which was a disappointment. The present museum is an interim one before the opening of the official museum in 2007.Most popular models are audi, vw, opel, merc and of course bmws. Less popular models are the Italian makes (not surprising), japs and you can guess the rest. Wish all the club members lived there, especially with the choices of BMW models at our disposal. Not surprising, most cars were fitted with manual transmission, and diesel engines are very common. Found a dime and dozen of E36, E46, E60s. Handful of E39s. The surprising thing is that I only found 3 units of E90s in my 7 day stay in Munich. Hatchback models are very popular.I will down load pictures as I go.Cheers

i guess u aslo would have noted that all their TAXIS are either a Mercedes, Audi & a few BMW as well - late model ones too......there, they are so common - here, they are LUXURY cars....;)

hehehe.. me too just came back.. had a go in a e60 535 diesel wagon lastest twin turbo !!

awsome.... so much torque..and so frugal in economy !

xcell90, I would not mind driving a manual if I am in Germany or in the states, not in Malaysia with our horrendous traffic situation. Imagine getting stuck on PLUS highway during festive seasons!

Al,

I understand about the jams in KL. Nevertheless, driving a manual is just an experience to treasure on an open road.

In Munich, taxis are mostly Mercs , but "polize" cars are BMWs and Porches.

I am unable to download the pictures. Even after zipping, each file is larger than 80K, sorry guys.

Cheers

This one is for the E36 members, rest assured this model is alive and kicking in Germany.

The German traffic is not that much better than KL at peak hours. Think Autobahn and you won't think traffic jams but the reality is the Autobahn around major cities like Frankfurt, Cologne, Bonn are just a mass of cars at peak hours, just like our Federal Highway though their road manners are definitely better. In fact, the Cologne-Bonn-Dusseldorf stretch is one of the worse traffic jams in Germany as there are many major cities and town within 100km of each other.

Other part of Europe? Same - London, Rome, Paris. Yet they still have more manual cars than auto. It's just our culture. Read the Autocar Asean and you will see them crying with joy that the latest Vauxhall Astra is finally available in auto. Maybe journalists never own a car long enough to see how costly it is to repair a slush box.

BMW 303, six cylinder model. This model rocketted the need for performance and sheer driving pleasure.

BMW showroom in Munich. Gave me goose pimples as I was approaching. The sight of all the latest models was so inviting. If I were living there, I would be spoilt for choices. For what I paid for my E60 520i here, could have driven out of that showroom with a 530i.
