Hello Everyone,I am a newbie here and I don't own a BMW yet . Seriously deciding to get one . I have shortlisted two cars :E90 320i ( 2008 ) & E90 325i ( 2005 ) . The 320i is still new and in very good condition . There is still about one more year of free service left for this car . As for the 325i, it is definitely slightly older . However the car is still in very good condition .I am in dilemma now .... Not sure which car to get .The 320i is still new and I could still enjoy the remainder of the free service . However heard that 320i's are under powered ..... Is this true ? I want lots of power from my BMW and I know the 325i could deliver this exceptionally well . Would like to have some your views on this matter ...... Which one should I go for ? I am a first time BMW buyer and I really need some good advice and guidance from experienced people like you guys in this club . Thanks a lot guys

As stated that u are power craze........close eyes and get the 325i..........there is still some difference between a 4 and 6 potter.........BUT, as a 4 potter 320i, I consider it impressive.......my ride is a E90, 323i LCI.......

theres no end for power addiction...but compare those two cars and if maintenance is not an issue then go for 325

if u ask my opinion, you should go for 320i since this is your first time owning a bmw...

325i anytime. 320i should not even be in the bmw lineup. 4-potter petrol, come on.

Hmmmm.......David, thats a good/fair point............for a 4 in line, it's still a good machine.........just my 2 cents.

Wing, do test those two variants and follow your heart......

Thanks guys for the useful info and advice :) . Think that I would settle for the 325i as I crave for the power in my future BMW, albeit I am a bit worried about the high maintainance cost though ..... That's the price I got to pay, I guess :)

Looking forward to be an Official Member of this reputable car club soon :)

If u want to enjoy BMW experience, take the 320i. If you want sheer power which can potentially lead you to maintenance nightmare, take the plunge into 325i.

That's why I'm am using 320i now. Look for a 320d if I were u.. I would have because 320i and 320d price difference is not that huge.

True in what Astro has to say..........as an owner of a 6 in line, maintenance cost is much higher........if, u are willing to spend that amount on maint cost..........then go for the 325i........example: engine oil can cost up to RM700.00, 6 liters on a 6 in line.

900km for a full tank on a 320d is very tempting and a far cry from the 400km on a 325i.

You are no doubt aware that any savings on diesel over petrol will be far exceedingly offset by the heavy depreciation of a diesel car over a petrol. In considering a BMW, the single biggest expense is depreciation, all other expenses (save those large ones like gearbox, icu, engine, etc) or almost insignificant. So you can't tell a BMW enthusiast that he has to choose one over another because of lower road tax, lower consumption, etc. My one sen's anyway.

These are still early days for the new 3rd generation common-rail diesel engines. In the UK, diesel engines depreciate less than petrol ones...So, maybe the diesels might hold their value in time to come here in Malaysia. Anyways, all BMWs depreciate like crazy.lol!

Yes, I too am hoping that the diesel quality will improve here in M'sia, so that we won't see such depreciation on those engines. All other things being equal, the diesel mileage would be compelling, unfotunately not the situation currently.

Seriously, test both the 320 and 325. Having driven both, and owned two 325s, an e46 and an e90, no doubt that the inline sixes have given BMW the fame that they deserve. There is really very little joy in driving a 4-potter BMW, save the image it exudes.
