Fuel Smell!!!!!

Guys,Just filled up my tank to FULL and realiaised my cockpit smell like a petrol kiosk. The smell will go away when it reaches 3/4 tank. Anybody have the same problem?

From your description, the immediate suspect would be the seals surrounding the fuel pump resulting in the petrol seeping through it when Full. Maybe you want to check it out by removing the back seat.

Yup had this problem before. The cause of my petrol leak was traced to a worn out rubber gasket around the fuel pump. Whenever I filled up a full tank of gas, the petrol would leak and the smell would intrude into the cabin. Had the gasket replaced (don't worry it was cheap) and smell went away. Its a very quick job too, 15 - 30 mins tops. Oh I'm assuming yours is caused by the same prob too. No harm in having it checked out. Good luck.

besides the seals, check the fuel hoses. It could be brittle or the clip holding the hoses are loose. Same effect as the worn out seals.

I'm replacing my fuel pump hoses this weekend. Both brittle already.

I think it's just the fuel vapour lingering in the car. Me also have same problem. Wind down one window about 1 ft down, another window on the other side about 6 inches down and travel for 5 mins. This should ensure the air being drawn out.

Do check yr fuel pump seals, they shld be leaking. When yr tank is full and seals leak, the fuel will splash (kinda spurt actually) out the loose/broken seals, due to the pressure. When its down to 3/4, the fuel will not reach the top of the pump.

Also, do what Affan suggested, check the hoses too. Do it as preventive maintanance while u r there ma....
