Not sure how useful this is to the forum but gonna do it anyway.

This thread relates to the cost of maintaining the F800 series and to some extent the F650GS (twin) and F700GS. Pretty much like similiar threads in the car section.

Open to anyone willing to share & list down the work done on his or her bike, including parts & labor costs and where it was done. IMHO, it should help owners find the best prices and also keep the shops honest ... ;-)

Have fun & ride safe.

Mileage 36,500 km ...

: Vesrah front brake pads RM168 x 2 sets
: Vesrah rear brake pads RM168
: steering cone bearings RM120 x 2
: labor RM150

The steering bearings on the F800 series are known to give up after 25,000km, so I guess I should be happy mine was due at 36,500km. The main symptom is the steering feels "unbalanced" when turning at low speeds, as if the bike wants to lean suddenly on its own.

The factory BMW brake pads are also known to last up to 40,000km. Mine had less than 2mm left which seems about right. The new Vesrah sintered pads feel great with nice modulation and firm bite.

saw your chain spec above 525-120, but for f800gs, the stock spec is 525-116.. did you have to cut the chain? Also was wondering if 16/41 front/rear sprocket would be a better option for highway friendly on 800 gs? anyone?

Stock sprockets were 16T/42T which I find a bit buzzy. Changed front to 17T so it's better at higher speeds ie. lower RPM.

1 tooth in front is roughly equivalent to 3 at the rear, so this is actually better than a 16/41 set-up for highway.

Sorry, what i meant was 17/41.... i dont do much off road so i guess ill go with 17/41 combo to test with :)

Stock combo
F650GS (twin) 17/41
F800GS(twin) : 16/42
