Hi Everyone!I need some advice: I am a Malaysian currently residing in the UK, and have a F10 530D, which I really, really like! Due to some personal circumstances, I will be moving back to Malaysia permanently in the about 6 months time. Having a look at MITI's website on APs, I think I will qualify fine for it, and I don't mind doing all the paper work to get the car shipped, insured, etc from UK to Malaysia. The part that I need some advice is: should I really be doing this ?I read somewhere that I may need to get the diesel particulate filter removed so that the car will behave with Malaysia's diesel. Is this a difficult task to do ? Anything else I need to do ? Is there anything I should watch out for ?What would you do if you were in my situation ?The other alternative would be to sell the car here in UK and buy something else in Malaysia, though it would come at a considerable cost (the 530D car has no lease/hire-purchase/finance at the moment). My concerns will be that the UK CBU F10 diesels may not fare as well on Malaysian diesel and don't really fancy having some expensive repairs 5-6 years down the line.

If you ended up buying a car in KL, would Miti allow you to buy a CBU car?

Have the diesel particulate filter removed and ECU remapped in UK. Don't have the expertise in Malaysia at the moment. Even BMW Malaysia now sell diesel models sans dpf. Only diesel with dpf now being sold in Malaysia is the Ssangyong Actyon II and mine has only done just over 15k in 4 months and so too early to tell if it will give problems later. But FC is high even higher than rated and this I believe is partly caused by the constant regeneration of the dpf as a result of the low quality diesel.

Would this void the warranty ? The car is about 1.5 years old.

Actually, having said that, I'm not even sure if there will be any warranty that BMW would honour if the car was taken back to Malaysia.

This would definitely void warranty. Maybe you should sell the car and buy a brand new one meant for Malaysian under something call BMW export. No sure of exact name.

Unfortunately no. However, I am planning on coming back under the "Returning Experts Programme" which does allow me to buy either a local assembled car or CKD tax free:

Which does help on the costs side.

I suspect as much; if you are not into CKDs, I would suggest you get a petrol 535 F10 from the UK and ship it back. You will never ever regret it!

Ah, but MITI's AP does require me to keep the car for at least 9 months though. I don't really plan on being in UK for another 9 months. Probably 6 months tops.

ever heard of the M division diesel f10(m550d)... it is a diesel 3.0L with not 2 turbo but 3.... hehehe...

Have you seen the fuel consumption on that ?

Heheh... yeah, but hundal, you'll have the BEAST to bring to all the TT... and steal the show, ahah!

530D is one of the god car. Diesel here may give you problem, I guess. Can't you sell and buy another back?

Or you can get the new M5; heard UK price starts from £73k!!!

safri,
hardly anyone buys new cars in the UK unless you are a filmstar or a very rich footballer or a celebrity. .

Most who bought new are fleet owners aka leasing companies

Sorry to disappoint you.

Cheers

and thats why 520d is so popular due to tax bracket and leasing is worst that along ,my sis sold her 1 series convertible last week and lost quite some due to she and my bro in law promoted to work in US instead of UK.

let me know if u have successfully brought back the 530d...considering an alpina D5 but apparently it needs euro 5 diesel

I would go for the 535i route.. I think the price for the approved used is cheaper now and u get more choice by now.. and peace of mind too. Worth the sacrifice for another 3 months in the UK but you could treat it as your last Boxing Day in the UK perhaps?
