EML light on..

hey guys....my EML light on the dash turns on when i start my car...after that it offs whats wrong eh? by the way what is EML stands for la?

if not mistaken its Engine Management Light, according to E46 manual, "fault in the engine electronics, you can continue to drive, but engine power is cut back and your engine speed is reduced". However, i have friends that have similar problem like yours, it didnt effect anything so they just dun borther, and they still can reach 200KM/H

Agree with mouse, sometime it flashes when u running at bumping road and your engine will automatically reduce power even though u press the acceleration to the max.

Does that mean there's a problem with the EML sensor? Mine also flashes but no effect on engine so far.

no lah.. EML function is like "check engine" its normal when you on the car and after a while its off. abnormal if always turn on or no lights at all..

checked with Ah Meng from M-Speed USJ, it's normal to have EML light on just before u start the engine, once the engine is started, it should off by itself. If the light still on, then it's abnormal.

my e46 hv been having this eml light coming on & off during driving BUT has not affected engine at all until few hrs ago when the eml light come on & engine died! no power at all & engine stalled while driving!. Managed to start after that. What may be the prob??

So kc what is the update of your car already ? How's the mechanic job ?

I had similar problem few days ago but after send to mech for inspection, they seems to resolve the issue after cleaning the sensors. When I asked them what causes the issue, apparently this happen when you switch fuel between RON 95 and RON 97. Honestly, I didn't buy that at all. First, I don't think mixing the fuel with cause damage to the engine and second I never fill my car with RON 95 since I bought it so the mech's reasoning is a bit doubtful.

i want share with u all... keta i pernah jadi cam ni, kadang-kadang ok kadang tak ok, bila eml om engine lose power. bila i p scan ianya berpunca daripada motor di camshaft tidak fungsi dgn baik, samada motor rosak atau connector yg kotor. tapi i bernasib baik kerana hanya connector saja yg kotor, just clean it and ok

normal when it turns on for a few seconds when to start the engine. if it does not turn off even when the engine is running then something is wrong.

My car is bk after many days of checking, diagnosis & the replacement of the following:
camshaft sensor
vanos motor
spark plug
crankshaft sensor
fuel filter

EML light dont come on now, no starting problem --for 4 days oredi. Hopefully no more problems.
