Just to let you guys know from my experience of ECU tuning and for those who plan to do the same. My car is an E46 323 CI but is lack of power especially during acceleration. From an advice of a friend (Sashi ,that you) I did a HIOP ECU tuning for a cost of RM 2000 and wow.....I can certainly feel the different. I only have to wait for a couple of days to get my ECU tuned as Calvin needs to copy the existing ECU software and email it to HIOP in German for tuning, but it worth the wait. The car felt so much 'lighter' and the acceleration is much more stronger. It wont beat an M3 that's for sure but it sure makes the car more fun to drive. For any 323 or any BMW owner who wants to do an ECU tuning, HIOP ECU tuning is the way to go.This is not a promo, but only a testimonial from a happy BMW driver. For those who want to contact Calvin he is available at 019-XXXXXXX or his website at www.eurocarmotorsport.com.Best Regards323Ci

just copy and paste cost Rm2k ?? wow !!
Problem is our currency is small...
it's less than 500 EURO.
it sucks right???

Your right it sucks, but that is the lowest cost of ECU tuning in the market (that I can find) right now and the reputation of HIOP for tuning an ECU for bimmer is quite good as well.

do you feel it instantly or after 2-3 full tank of petrol?

I did mine (not bimmer), cost me 1k+ and the effect felt only after 2 tanks. Since it's a remap, it takes a while for the car to learn it, but u defintely feel it after that

there's also MTH tuning for BMW & Mini...the local mini people are raving about it, cheap and effective

My car is pretty much standard without any mods except for the ECU tuning. Right after the performance software has been downloaded , the effect is immediate (otherwise I wont pay the money), but Calvin did say that it will take a tank of gas for a full immediate effect as the ECU settle in with the new software. I have already start to make plan for a BMC style filter to complement the ECU upgrade.

Ideally, you should do all your "plug in" mods (ie. filter/exhaust/etc.) before remapping, so that the guys who do the remapping (HIOP/Superchips/etc.) can use your baseline fueling map with the plug ins as a base line to remap.

Yup...and after all the aftermarket components are added on, do a dyno and send the AFM mapping to the tuner. That would be ideal!

agree with necc and al...but if the tuner is nice enuff, they will allow another remap since it's all 'copy & paste' over email anyway. of course this is true to my case..but i dealt directly with the tuner & the company was a one-man show that got big and he is also a very helpful enthusiast.

anyway, no harm calling Calvin and ask...good luck

fuiyoo......damn Ki mo chii....!!!! B)

can do ahything to a M52B28i manual..???

If this is just a copy and paste job, you would be able to do it like Japanese cars or Proton ZeNeGeR! Unfortunately NO! It is not possible to use another similar DME program to swap even if they are the same model. The German programmer have to crack their head to find a way to break the DME code, and start programming it according to the INDIVIDUAL car. The best thing is Hiop not only tune the fuel map and ignition + increase rev limit, they also set the vanos timing which many tuner doesn't do.

As for the mods consideration, the Hiop DME program are already tuned to suit some minor future mods like filters, exhaust, cams (but not too aggressive, anyway how aggressive can an auto car take right?) due to the DME is a learning ECU (of course there are limits and tolerance too). Force induction and stroker kit will be a different story.

Below is how its looks like....

hhmm.. thank u for the explaination Calvin. You've shed some light to those who might not know and me of course.

I just loooove this tech thingy :nyehehe: kekrkkekrkr

this type of ECU tuning is for engines with the OBD II DME... correct me if I'm wrong...

Sashi, drinks on me, no problem. May be we can test and compare car as well. Just to let you guys know, I have my skeptism before I did this ECU tuning with Calvin, but Im glad that I did and I have no regret. Im not a pro, but my advise is to who wants to tune their ECU, get some advise from Calvin or any of our friends that have done it. If you ever been to Calvin's shop , he got everything Bimmer under the sun!!. If you want to do Superchip, he got it and if you want to do HIOP ECU tuning, he got it as well. He even got the Supercharger, if you got the monies!!!. Get his advise.

The car feel so much better especially during acceleration that I find myself purposely plant my foot down the accelerator hard just to have that 'pick up' feel. Before this, I can't do that as the acceleration was 'lembek'.
