Alternator pulley has a one way directional bearing inside, just like your bicycle. Inside ball bearing pecah and the bearing seize, like a fixie bicycle :4: can hear an occasion "krakk" like front wheel drive car with a busted drive shaft trying to take corner. With the fixie alternator pulley, can hear a whining sound in the cabin. Wife dare not drive the car, I took a day off to send the car to SC for inspection. Went to SC, SC say need to inspect and leave the car behind just to be safe, they are not taking any chance and I do understand. They have a reputation up uphold. So I went to Optimum, the foreman took a small but long screw driver and stick it into the alternator to stop the solenoid from spinning, then use hand to turn the pulley.. and yes, fixie confirm... the bearing seize. With the v-belt out of the way, I can inspect all the pulleys, the tensioner pulley was a bit loose and even spin by hand, can see the pulley wobble and create a little noise. So change it also lor. The belt no crack no tear.. no need to replace la. My Avanza only replace the RM38 v-belt after 6.5 year, at 160k km.. :4: Check out the special tool on the left that require to remove the alternotor 1-way pulley.. Tensioner pulley is the one under the spring loaded tensioner, behind the radiator hose in this photo..
