He could see that BMW had not been selling in the sort of numbers it should have been doing (in terms of official sales, that is) because there were limited choices in the showrooms. Within a short time, he tripled the model offerings and even better, launched brand new models in Malaysia within a very short time after they went on sale in Germany. </p><p>This was a great contrast to earlier years when it took a year or more for a new model to come to Malaysia and even longer for it to be locally assembled to bring its price down. Such a situation in the past meant that grey importers, who have no concerns about after-sales services nor ensuring that the cars are suitably specified for hotter and more humid tropical conditions, could do a good business.</p><p></p><p><img src="http://www.motortrader.com.my/NUS/articles/article_789/325i%20Sports%201.jpg" alt="" class="fr-fic fr-dii fr-draggable " style="" /> That early promise by Mr Schlimme has been kept and today, the company is focused on constantly refreshing the line-up, a key marketing strategy of BMW. Offering new products - with tangible improvements, of course – is what keeps people interested in a brand and BMW’s marketeers have understood that all along. Also a much-studied strategy has been BMW’s clever use of engines to widen the variety; constant engineering-driven upgrades have maintained sales for most models over longer periods than many other rivals which typically see a decline towards the end of the product’s life-cycle. Sticking to this strategy, BMW Malaysia has added another variant to its locally-assembled 3-Series - the 325i Sports. Besides the impressive 2.5-litre 6-cylinder double-VANOS, VALVETRONIC engine which develops 160 kW/218 bhp, the 325i Sports also comes with a standard ‘M’ Sports Package which includes the M Aerodynamics kit, 18-inch’ Star Spoke M Light Alloy Wheels with run-flat tyres, M Sports Suspension, and M Leather Steering Wheel.</p><p>By packaging these extra accessories with the car, buyers can have the cost included in their H-P loan. Announced earlier for the 5-Series and 7-Series, it is now also available for the 3-Series. “Last year, we continued to invest in our strategy that concentrated in providing choice and availability to our customers. This strategy led us to increase our investment with our partner Sime Darby in the local assembly of the 3-Series in three variants. This month, we raise the benchmark a notch higher with the new 325i Sports.” Mr Schlimme said.</p><p>He added that in offering choice and availability, BMW also never wavered from its initiatives in continuing to import its other models so that Malaysian customers can enjoy BMW’s full line-up. This is shown by BMW Malaysia also launching the new 3-Series Coupe and Z4 M Coupe together with the 325i Sports.</p><p>The new 3-Series Coupe, available as 323i Coupe and 335i Coupe, is said to be ‘the embodiment of sportiness, performance with unmistakable elegance’.
