It's a personal preference, for me BMW, because it's a driver's car- great feel and superb handling with balanced weight distribution, RWD and the sportiness of the interior trim especially the M-sport version. Most(if not all) UK car magazines rate it highly in comparison test and the 3 series won the World Car Awards in 2006. I grinned from ear to ear everytime I took my ride for a spin!!
(wait until you drive a nine-eleven even an old one, you would want one....!)

That day I went to test drove both A4 1.8T(FWD) & 2.0T(Quattro) in a row. Before that, I test drove the facelifted 325. I myself is driving an E46 325 & my friend is driving a E90 320, so I get the chance to drive & sit in his 320 very often. It’s easy to compare with the B8s.

Well, we all know the build quality of Audi & the long list of equipment it has, so let’s put that aside. Audi is on upper hand.

Regarding torque & speed, with turbo, it’s always fast… That’s no doubt. At least you feel very fast with the turbo. I am very surprise with the 1.8T’s power, frankly speaking 320 is no match. My NA 325 can’t match with the 2.0T. E90 325 vs B8 2.0T Quattro, my money is on B8. Frankly. But, let’s read below b4 u guys jump on me ah.

The 1.8T FWD feel VERY nice, VERY minimum understeer, well balanced & tuned chassis. Best ever stock FWD I have driven. The B7 didn’t convince me on this point, but the B8, YES. I have to admit that this car has the preferred checklist fulfilled for most & normal consumer. It will surely take away some 320 customers, PROVIDED below 3 things are not in the buyers’ list.
1. Steering is super light.
2. You don’t have the fun of RWD character
3. Too quiet, our beemer engine sound is tuned to amuse us when driving.

Now, the Quattro, that’s more like it. Beemer lovers would like this version as the rear is working. I can feel the tail. Pushed hard in round about, 4 wheels slide together, fun! But who’s going to do that every day or frequently with quarter million car? Again, it’s fast with the turbo! Very quiet & stable on high speed as usual for an Audi. Other that then pretty much same with the 1.8T. Similar price with 325, similar horse power, stronger torque, it will give 325 a punch too. Hey, but then, the above 3 points are still there, just only #2 is you have a half of it.

I have to admit that these B8 A4s are really attractive even to me when I drive. Very appealing in terms of spec., style, building quality, comfort, power. I mean, VERY. But guys, I feel lack of something. I will buy if I have never experienced a beemer & above 3 points is not in my criteria. I guess the BMW’s character’s has been implanted in my brain, can’t get rid of it.

Strange enuf, after my test drive & when I drive my 1 generation older 325, yes I feel the generation gap, BUT I still love it! Yes, it’s slower, u hear the engine & muffler roars, the tail is there, but I love these characters! At least for now! It’s just fun to drive it.

After the test drive, I personally feel both are good cars. One difference, the car’s character.. I am further convinced that beemer owners buy their car coz of the car’s character. Yes, it may be less powerful(NA version), but the acceleration is smooth. Never the less, the fun factor of what BMW created matches to our criteria. That’s why we are here.

Just side info., the absorber is RM1.8k/pc… Don’t forget the B8 has a selection of drive mode + suspension hardness, which is also VERY convenient.

Test drive yourself to find out more, these are only I personal opinion.

Many complained BMW very sophisticated, many unnecessary electronics, over cook, they forgot what simplicity is, etc. But after reading Vroom325's posting.. Audi is even worst!

We just want a well balance, good driving dynamics, simple, straight forward raw performance. All other unnecessary "convenient" components are just weight penalty! Cars are made bigger every generation and weight is growing too, just to satisfy owners that put a tick on the questionnaire for a bigger car. Is it necessary?!

E90 today is as big as E39, so F30 will be as big as E60? Time will tell!

Are you sure the B8 quattro is similarly priced with the 325i? I believe the base price is something like RM310+ and if you match it with the Sports by adding satnav and other goodies, it's RM330+. Am I wrong?

Some like the Audi dash and steering wheel, but I don't. I feel it doesn't have the typically teutonic feel of a BMW or Merc interior. It's like being in any other good European car.

One man's poison is another man's meat... ;)

If everyone buys the same car, that would be a boring world...

4got about the exact price, but similar price range, isn't it? Both above 300k. When I can afford a 300k car, 10-20k doesn't really matter much...

4got one important thing, the 50:50 chassis of ours. That's real fun when you drive in long winding roads & corner. I am addicted to step on gas in the axis now to feel the tail...

Yes, even when driving my nearly naked e46 325(vs the B8 equipment) after test drove the B8s, it's still fun to drive my own car. :top:Never really miss that car that much after 1-2days...

righto .

best bang for buck for me would be the A4 B8 2.0T. not to mention the price is justified being a CBU unit. :top: just my 2 kupang.....

also I tot this was suppose to be a 3 car comparo? 3 pages now , it's all abt between E90 325 and B8 2.0T quattro only. have no one here tried out the C230 to compare?:D

Do we really always push our beemers to the extend that it release all it potentials ? How many driver do that ? To most drivers, an A4 1.8T or 2.0T or C200 base model is good enough for day to day city driving and once awhile onto highway or trunk roads. Give them an A4 2.0T Quattro or C230 V6, all will be :top: already.

Different people will have different brand loyalty and driving preference. No right or wrong

Fully agree with you DY. Unless we take them on track, it's all subjective feel-good factor.

I remember a Top Gear comparison driven by one race driver on a track. The Merc and FWD Audi were nowhere near the BMW in terms of cornering limits, and they lost by a few seconds.

In terms of tuneability, the Audi wins..again.

With a 300bhp potential,I think Quattro is indeed a good item to have as opposed to FWD.Not a problem with RWD,a credit to BMW,tho the N52 is hardly tuneable,a weak point for the e90 325i.

problem with aftermarket tune is, the car wont be as reliable as its factory condition, i've seen many golf gti or audi b7 turbo frequent the workshop more ...for some its a hobby to visit the workshop and throw the money to the mech...but some others might have other more important things to do...

so its individual preference

if the local Audi A4 2.0T includes Sat Nav and the full MMI, it will blow the e90 LCI 325 sport and Merc C230 away in terms of unit sales.

That would be RM330+ for a 4-cyl. It won't blow me away. IMO Audi just doesn't have the brand image and all that entails, including resale value.

Audi is still one of the best selling in europe and thats due to its quattro...but in malaysia it needs more then the price and performance to win our ppls heart...

Most drivers wants attraction, some wants hassle free maintenance and service centres, many are fussy on resale values..,spare part cost, fwd/rwd and etc etc...Only few go for engine performance and speed and those are the die hards..

Aftermarket tuning is okay if done within reason and within a reknowned tuner's well researched parameters. Those that go overboard will definitely pay the price. So I don't see tuning as a handicap.Again, like u said..personal preference.
Most of the tuned Golfs that I know of are pretty reliable, with a fat torque range. Its even better for the 2.0t A4,with more potential..again,within reason la.
When hot hatches nowadays regularly makes upwards of 250bhp/300Nm,I think 250Nm is hardly enough anymore for a 'sports saloon'.
BMW needs to get off their fat arses and do something.

It might not blow away the 325i LCI just yet I think, even with all those niceties cuz Malaysia is just not ready yet for it.In Europe, maybe.
All it'll do is sway people who puts performance above all else when choosing a conti sports saloon, which is fitting me thinks. But that's just me la..
