The right way is to fill to full tank, then start recording your distance. Then the next time you pump, fill to full tank again and stop recording your distance. The 2nd refill represents the volume of gas used to travel the distance recorded. No guesswork involving where the needle was/is, etc.Your way, you don't know exactly how much gas there was in the tank before you pumped the 38L, and you won't know exactly how much gas you have left when you pick a distance to calculate your FC.
